"The character lays in bed for 90% of the show. I hope he can handle that much exertion."
He's bedridden, but does he get laid, too? I've forgotten that.
Is it true Cybill Shepherd will be Elizabeth Marvel's standby?

Bruce Willis is absolutely perfect as Paul. But isn't Elizabeth Marvel excessively young, beautiful and, um, svelte as Annie Wilkes? Now if they had cast Rosie O'Donnell as Annie this would be a play to see.

Elizabeth Marvel is actually older than Kathy Bates was when she did the film.

No it didn't. Maybe this version, but there have been several stage adaptations of the story including the one in London that starred Sharon Gless in the Kathy Bates role.
Well, of course they are talking about this version. If someone were to say The Phantom of the Opera made its debut in London in 1986, would you claim it didn't and then cite the earlier Ken Hill adaptation or any of the other earlier stage adaptations? Probably not.

The Phantom example is a bad one because the ALW version has so eclipsed the other version.
If an article was written about, let's say The Wild Party, I would expect the author to specify which The Wild Party we were talking about.
In this instance, the article is confusing because it doesn't acknowledge another version of the material.

I don't know, I don't think i would bother mentioning other adaptations if the article is about a specific production that is being produced. If the article were about various adaptations of the novel, I would agree with you. In this case they already mentioned who the playwright is, and that it is his work being produced, so saying it debuted in 2012 at Buck's County doesn't seem confusing to me.

If Willis's ego were a problem, I doubt he'd agree to play the secondary character, which Paul is.
When Willis' ego was brought up, it wasn't the size of his role.
It was the fact that he is frequently rude to other actors/directors, and even fans. If you want an example, look up Kevin Smith and Bruce Willis. Smith directed him in an action film called Cop Out, and has been very open about Willis' bad behavior on the set. There have been other examples as well.
I was just hoping he can straighten out a little bit to do 8 performances a week and a live audience, since he doesn't sound all that open to working with others well.
"The character lays in bed for 90% of the show. I hope he can handle that much exertion."
And handles 50% of the dialogue.
This is a man who lives on sides for film, w retakes.
8 x a week no retakes. We'll see.
as Paul Riser usta say "i'm not saying, I'm just sayin'"
It looks like Elizabeth Marvel is out and LAURIE FRICKIN METCALF is in!

Kathy Bates put a near indelible stamp on the role in a performance that is pretty close to perfection in that film. If there is anyone who can overcome that onstage Laurie Metcalf is definitely the person who will be able to do that. I can't wait to see this!
Oh. Oh my. Oh my word, this is going to be unmissable.
It pretty much went from "that would be nice to see" to "I would sell my children to see this (if I had any)."

Ah!!! Cannot wait for this. Can. Not.
"Ah!!! Cannot wait for this. Can. Not."
My thoughts EXACTLY. Love Metcalf on stage. Bruce Willis? Meh.
Now Metcalf!!
OK, this is promising. She has such an energetic vibe on stage.

Metcalf? OMFG yes!
I'm scared already.
And the damn Tony goes to...

"I wish it was the 1999 London version"
I'm curious, harris, what was it about the Bucks County version you liked less than the London version -- or did you not see it, so have no basis of comparison?
Why is this even necessary? Doing a live version of a movie that was a book that millions have already seen/read seems more like Hollywood rebooting Spiderman/Superman/Batman et al. Have we completely run out of imagination? Can no one come up with something new? I don't have anything against revivals. I like revivals. But this isn't a revival and can add nothing new to the story. Other than to get people to spend money to see Bruce Willis live, I can see no reason for this. I remember the theater adaptation of On the Waterfront. My favorite movie. I cried in the theater because it was so awful and unnecessary.
If Willis wants to do Broadway, get him a new show with a new story.

ok.
