It is a big hit here in Chicago. I'm shocked that it's closing. I think it's like when they announced Wicked closing in Chicago because they didn't want to have five North American companies and they were afraid of fall ticket sales. This makes me sad.
Because eventually everyone in Chicago and the surrounding area who wants to see it will. It looks better that they close on a high note and let other productions come into the city.
Just because it is doing successfully and has been running for years in NYC isn't necessarily an indicator of how long it should run in Chicago. The NYC production probably attracts a wider range of audiences because NYC is known internationally for Broadway. The Chicago production seems to be targeted to those out in the Midwest who might not be able to make it to NYC.

A 2 year run of JB is fantastic in this day and age. Saw it in June of 2008 and again in July of 2009. Loved it both times. How wonderful that it ran for 2 years...entertaining millions, and keeping actors, musicians, crew and theatre/box office staff employed!
Will be in Chicago that closing weekend, so when the final block of tickets go on sale, it would be a lot of fun to see the last performance.
"I this on Aug 1 and loved it! There truly isn't a bad seat in the house. I sat Row B 308 front mezzanine on the right side and they were perfect"
Not to sound condescending, but clearly you didn't sit up in the upper balcony. All I saw were tops of heads, and it was a wonder that no one experienced vertigo up there. It reminded me of the balcony at the walter kerr theater.

I assume they decided to close Jersey Boys so they can bring in other shows such as Billy Elliot, Shrek, Addams Family... etc. BIC only has 3 theaters and they have a ton of shows they are bringing to Chicago for the 09/10 season.
I bar tend for BIC and Jersey Boys always has great attendance and the people at that show drink more and tip better than the other shows, so for that reason I'm sad to see it go, but I am looking forward to SOME of the shows coming in.
Jersey Boys has had a good run in Chicago. However,I think that the hype has died down. When shows should be thriving in the summer, Jersey Boys in Chicago was offering 40% ticket discounts. It sucks because Chicago lost Wicked in Jan. '09 and now will loose Jersey Boys in Jan. '10. However, I do expect another opened show to arrive in Chicago besides Billy Elliot in 2010. Not sure what show it could be but, I do think one is coming. And an announcement could happen.
"Legally Blonde should get a sit down at the bank of america theatre"
That doesn't really make sense. It has already toured extensively around the US. I don't think a sit-down production would last very long, unlike some more popular shows like Jersey Boys and Wicked.

Jersey Boys numbers in Chicago have been low for months (you can see them on Variety). I knew it was coming sooner or later. It's nice to see that this show had such a great run! Hopefully all the people who will soon be unemployed will get working again.
