Porter is…a choice. Maybe he decided London would be more welcome to him as a replacement as opposed to Broadway. But also, while the Emcee can be pretty much anyone, this just seems like it won’t fit well at all. Billy Porter has become very good at playing Billy Porter and that’s not who I see the emcee in this production to be."
I wouldn't be surprised if he was approached for the NY production, but with it looking most likely that they will have to close at a loss anyways, perhaps they approached him for London since that production looks stable.

I think Porter sometimes plays Billy Porter and takes you out of the performance of the character he is meant to be portraying. That said, the Emcee in this staging might be a good fit for him.

Porter is a very odd choice for Emcee."
Marisha is a thrilling choice and I’m bummed that I will like miss her since my usual London trip (if I have it next year) is in July.

Y’all are hilarious on this board. The man hasn’t even stepped into his first rehearsal and you’ve already decided what he won’t do well. Need I remind you, he’s a Tony Award winner. He hasn’t endured his lengthy career because he can’t act. Give him a chance. Let him not be your cup of tea, then tear him to shreds after you’ve seen it.
People speculate on the appropriateness of casting all the time ... as one might expect on a discussion board even when Tony award winners are involved. Porter isn't being singled out.
