The first performance is this Friday! I have tickets for Saturday night (Goldstar is an amazing resource). Anyone else planning on catching what is sure to be a beautiful production?

I wish! I can't get to Chicago now; arrggh! I'm a huge Steve Pasquale fan and hope this production comes to NY. Hope you'll report on it.

There seems to be a lot of excitement over this production. Laura Osnes and Steven Pasquale in Carousel is like a dream come true. If I wasn't in school, i'd def go to Chicago to see it. I also hope it transfers. Wouldn't be surprised if some producers are interested in bringing it to Broadway.

Excited beyond belief to see it on Sunday. Everything I hear makes me more excited about it. I hear that Rob Ashford has a thoughtful concept that will shed a different light on the abuse (but, of course, I won't reveal what that is).

I'll be honest, I know NOTHING about this show. I've been tempted to look it up on Wikipedia, but I think I'm going to hold out and go in completely blind. The cast, and the cast alone sold me on this. I'm really looking forward to seeing Laura (My first time seeing her live) and Charlotte d'Amboise (Whom I ADORED in Pippin). Counting the hours!

If the outgoing and fearless Ms. Osnes can play the meek and vulnerable Julie Jordan with conviction, that will be another notch on her rifle.
She surprised in the Encores' Pipe Dream playing, not a meek character by any means, but a complex and vulnerable one.

Based on comments Osnes has made this is very unlikely to transfer to new York.

I know in one interview, someone asked her if she thought it would go to Broadway and she said "no, wellllll." She sounded like there could possibly be a chance. I mean On The Town wasn't expecting a transfer either. Plus theres many Broadway people involved and its been 20 years since Carousel was last on Broadway! Time for a revival!

I always find it weird when Broadway stars do shows of this caliber that won't be transferring to Broadway...

I'll be there next Thursday for my first visit to the Opera, very excited!

Philly- I was going to make the same argument! If it gets good reviews, anything is possible, especially when they have brought this amazing group of performers together.
On a somewhat related note, does anyone have any insight on Charlotte's stage door habbits? I really wanted to meet her after Pippin, but was told she never signs. Earlier in the run a friend of mine said she did come out to sign, so was that just a freak thing and she decided to do it that night? I'm such a big fan and would love to get a picture with her after Carousel.

I don't think The Lyric Opera is really in the business of transferring productions to Broadway.
They do beautiful work though, so if you can get to town to see this you should jump on it. I am quite excited for this one.

If it transfers, the Lyric Opera doesn't have to produce it right?

I'm going on the 17th so excited. This is my favorite of all R&H shows. Also looking forward to seeing the fabulous Miss Laura Osnes.
This Creating Carousel exhibit seems pretty awesome as well.

In theory, they wouldn't have to. That being said, it is their production. The costumes and set designs, etc. Are likely owned by them as the producers of this production, so their future involvement would still likely be present on some level.
If you are hoping for a transfer, I really wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. It isn't impossible, but it seems highly unlikely.

For anyone who can't make the trip http://www.wfmt.com/ are broadcasting a recording of the whole production on April 12th at 7.15pm. Not sure if they have a listen again facility.

Wouldn't they be more likely to sell the production to other opera/regional companies (like the recent Show Boat?) With probably different casts, etc...
I love the cast and what we know of this--though the fact that apparently Ashford has some clever idea for it that a poster won't tell us about has me worried...

No, nothing high-concept to be concerned about, just a slight shift in setting.

Do they actually sell the production? I have seen operas credited as in association with other opera houses when productions originated elsewhere, but I have not heard of a company selling the full production outright. Of course, just because I haven't heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't happen regularly.

Does this video hint at a Broadway transfer?

Going to Chicago primarily to see Steven Pasquale, whose turn in BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY is burned into my memory for its searing performance and spectacular singing. Can't wait to see this.
