Are they still doing the rapper Tugger? With Tyler Hanes? True that the replacement rapping Tugger in London was white, as was the Tugger in Australia, but I can see this being more of an issue in the US. (And the whole concept is dire and the costume already somehow looks more dated than the Glam Rock Tugger)

If they do, I will personally fly to London or wherever Mr. ALW is currently living and scold him for doing so. I saw videos of the rapping Tugger... who in their right mind would change one of the best characters? Tisk tisk
How do you even know. Negotiations could've fell through for all we know. It could be that the producers want someone who can sell tickets and has a Broadway pedigree. I would think the powers that be want someone like Audra or Idina to play the part. For all we know Nicole could've felt the same way Patti LuPone felt when played Fantine in the London "Les Miserables" and that she didn't want to it anywhere else.

Audra's rather busy for the foreseeable future, and I don't see Idina taking on supporting roles (and to be honest, Grizabella is a glorified cameo) in revivals at this point in her career. She's been extremely adamant about wanting to work in new shows and creating characters from scratch.
I didn't mean Audra or Idina specifically I meant someone who has the same star quality that they have. I do love the idea of Phillipa Soo as Grizabella.
I would really prefer it not be someone in there 20's or 30's. I think the character needs to be at least 40. If I could choose, I'd go for someone like Heather Headley. If you haven't heard her sing Memory - you need to go to 'that site' now.
Headley would be great. Ruthie Ann Miles would ne my top pick. But I do fear we're stuck with Scherzinger. I'll remain optimistic until another cast announcement comes out.

I cant believe this show is be revived. It is so dated. The music, the direction, the set, the costumes... the list goes on! If they really want people to talk about this show then why not bring in a completely new production team to bring it up to date or at least shake it up a little bit.

Congratulations! You just described what they're actually doing with the revival, and if scroll up you'll see people complaining about some of the changes they didn't like.

They said the same thing about the recent revival in London and I didn't see what all the fuss was about! If it turns out they are in fact doing that then I will quite happily take it back. I guess we wont no for sure until it opens.
In my opinion Webber's score is totally dated! It is totally reminiscent of the 80s.
Alot of my friends and I have had a discussion about Cats and I think you either love it or you hate it.
The dancing was phenomenal when I see it. But I have absolutely no desire to see the same old same old. Therefore, I am hopping I am wrong and it will be updated! But the artwork on the website is just the same as ever. Black background with the yellow eyes. http://www.catsthemusical.com/broadway/ Yes, its iconic but its also boring!

Sounding like the era it's from doesn't necessarily mean it's dated.
"
I know what you mean! But as soon as I hear it I almost roll my eyes. Maybe more time needs to pass for me to think of it as a classic rather than dated. It also doesn't help that I'm not Webber's biggest fan.
Fingers crossed a total random actress is selected and she does something completely different with Memory. All faith will be restored! But if the rumours are true and it is Nicole Scherzinger then there is no hope! lol (As you can tell I'm not a fan of hers either!)
Well, I had a friend tell me not too long ago (a reliable source) that Scherzinger would very likely be cast as Grizabella. However, this morning it's being reported by British press that she will be joining the X Factor as a judge, which starts later this summer. Nothings officially confirmed either way, but I do wonder what happened there. Bizarre.
Anyway, if Scherzinger won't be doing it, then I wonder who will? Audra can't do it for obvious reasons, Marin Mazzie is in another show and Phillipa Soo is too young for the role.
Jennifer Hudson left TCP rather abruptly. Maybe for this? Just a shot in the dark, much like my guess about Phillipa Soo was, who is not available right until previews anyway because earliest her Hamilton contract expires is sometime in July. It could be Laura Benanti who is done with She Loves Me early July.
And there's Bernadette Peters who voice is slightly aged, but that would get folks who actually know CATS is ****ty to come watch anyway.
I'm just throwing names now, I'll stop.

Julia Murney or Stephanie J. Block (or Alice Ripley if PSYCHO closes early) would be great. What about Brandy? She got good reviews in CHICAGO. Heck, are they trying to get Idina?

I know there's probably 0% chance of this happening, but I really wish they could bring Kerry Ellis over. She replaced Grizabella in the London revival.
