Too many injuries with the cast?

Pretty much. I believe I heard they were going to perform “Skimbleshanks” but Emma has been in and out injured, and since the cast is pretty much close to consistently all-skating with swings, coupled with an exhausting show schedule - putting them at the front of the parade in the hot sun, then have them go do a show was too much of an ask.

The longevity of this show depends on the cast staying healthy. I hope they can keep going into 2027. They keep adding swings and then someone else goes down.

They aren’t really adding swings at the rate they need to. Production has been begging for more swings since the show opened and previews already had some chaos. However, money is the factor on top of the casting team being rather particular about who they want in the show. I have quite a few friends who either turned down an offer due to salary or tried to get seen and were turned away.

The only new swings that have come on since opening are Darius Wright (replacing Sherrod T. Brown), Ernest Mingo (who came, then left for La Cage, and just returned) and Elisa Galindez (who only covers Booth Singer/Waitress for now).

Is it common for swings to be getting more than union minimum?

It’s complicated, but to my best estimate, the current standard is minimum ($2717) + 6% = $2,880.02. They also get a bump of 12.5% each time they go on.

So at minimum, the math is $2880.02 x 1.125 = $3,240.02 for the week if they go on for a single performance. This may even be low considering most of the swings cover more than 5 roles, which also merits a bonus. Considering B. Noel Thomas had gone on as Bustopher for three weeks straight when Nora was out, she may have cleared a minimum of $5760.04 per week for three consecutive weeks.

Long story short, it’s not entirely unlikely that the swings at Jellicle Ball (especially Bryce as dance captain - which is an extra $420/week) are making pretty good bank at the moment.

Why in the world are they doing a 10-show week? I get adding an extra show to have the 4th off, I understand moving from Sunday to Monday performance schedule for the summer, but at the SAME TIME? Terrible timing with how thin the cast is already spread. Prayers up for the Jellicles this week.

I already plan on going back this week...and possibly inviting some friends with me

I was there this afternoon (Nik Dodani & Michael Musto were the judges).

This is not a pretty week to have the 10 shows. I likely anticipate that even those not usually calling out may end up out for one or two shows.

Today, it was an all-skate WITH split tracks. 10 roles required coverage and some of the specialities were also divided up since not all the swings were able to do them. They put on a FANTASTIC show, but you can tell that where moments were cut and sewn together.

Once again, gotta hand it to Bryce Farris. He did a split track that was Victoria AND Mistofflees with a little bit of Etcetera blended in. He’s probably the hardest working dance captain I’ve ever seen in my life and I hope they are paying him everything he is worth because I don’t think I’ve seen a swing do this much since Kyle Ramar Freeman in A STRANGE LOOP.

This was the board:

Swings only get bumps when they on for principals. I dunno which tracks are and aren't, but I doubt all are.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

Just got back from the 8pm. B Noel Thomas was Bustopher Jones, Ernest Mingo was Mistoffelees, and Bryce Farris as Etcetera.

Ken Ard was swapped out for Darius Wright (who looked like he was wearing regular street clothes) halfway through Act 1 and an announcement was made just before Act 2 started. Hope he’s alright.

Otherwise, incredible crowd and energy from the cast tonight.

Leiomy and DEBBIE ALLEN are the guest judges afternoon.

I just spoke to Leiomy and it appears she will be returning on Thursday 7/30 full time and a few days ahead of schedule.
