Sutton Ross:
I’m neither sensitive, triggered, or think what is occurring here is bullying, per se.
All that I’m trying to say, and I believe BdwayLife agrees, is that we can all just try to be less rude and express a little more niceties to people. Even if it’s just for now. A pretty simple idea that people from
all walks of life, from different backgrounds, and those with different opinions would probably all agree is the right thing to do.
I seriously don’t understand why this is so hard, but I’m sure you or someone else will explain that one to me.

We do hope so but nothing is a guarantee...we are heading deeper now in to a recession and who knows come fall what will happen with the crippling economy here in the USA

Play Esq,
Maybe worry and be concerned about yourself and not how other people want to express their views? I would think that would be a very frustrating way to live your life. All opinions are valid here, even those you don't approve of and dislike.

We get it.
You're consistently hateful, dismissive, or treat others with contempt instead of trying a little civility or assuming good intentions.
Clearly there is no reason to try and appeal to any sort of generosity or better nature as several of us have done here.
Blocking it is.

It just felt like a really bizarrely out of touch post. We are all devastated about the closing of Broadway and the much bigger fact that people are dying because of this virus. I agree that my sarcasm wasn’t helpful and I apologize, but I do wish people would have a little more tact and self awareness.

I remain baffled by the hair-trigger tempers, reactions and judgements around here. I'm sure the phrase "I really need" was meant playfully, not as some spoiled Verruca Salt/Paris Hilton demand. I say this because its pretty common in conversation to smile and say "I really need X" when what one means is just that one really wants said thing. It's particularly common to phrase something this way if the said thing is a hard or seemingly impossible thing to get.
Wasn't the question really just "I'm so eager for this, can someone give me hope that at least a recording could be done soon, somehow?" It was a post from an eager, devoted fan. Where's the need to go off on someone like that? Here, of all places?

Posted: 3/25/20 at 4:59amThe world economy is crashing. Many of us are stuck inside by law. Everything is shutdown and people are dying across the world. I don’t mind and in fact enjoy being able to come here and discuss ‘petty’* things like whether a show will reopen, what will happen to the Tonys or how can we get a Company cast recording. If I wanted to remind myself of the awful things I can easily just refresh BBC or CNN, thank you.

Sutton, you’re missing Play Esq’s point. Your opinion is valid, our advice is that you express it in a more positive way.

If you are too sensitive, "triggered" or think our views are "bullying", feel free to go somewhere else."
Who said anything about feeling “triggered” or that there was “bullying”? I know exactly where I am. I value a diversity of perspectives—that is actually, why I come on here. If everyone knew and thought the same as I, why would I bother? Be more kind, Sutton.

People should be able to express their feelings freely without being torched by the members of this message board.

Yeah I have a good feeling about this one coming back. It's an expensive production (wasn't it reported to be $18 million?) and it would seem the producers would be more eager to raise a little more to get through this than toss it all to the side and collect the insurance check. Also, since it's not a limited run of a play, it's less likely to conflict with fall schedules for the cast. (Possibly the creatives, who planned being done working by now, but everyone's schedules are in the air right now.)

Was Company a shoe-in for best revival at The Tony's? I would say, yes. Does the show have long-term appeal to people outside of NYC...? Maybe not. So, a longer wait for awards season could possibly end Company's return or eventual run pre-maturely. How much money do those producers have socked away?
I would guess Ms. Lupone would return...especially if she's hungry for a Tony Award aka a career boost. And the others too; Lenk, Simard, Sieber. All highly ambitious, Tony hungry performers have seen promising opportunities with jobs on the screen slip through their fingers. All hopes dashed, thanks to Covid-19.

Certainly not a guarantee for best revival. WSS and Caroline or Change were up there too, at the moment. While I appreciated this Company, I think WSS was more ambitious.

Considering Broadway politics and the drama surrounding WSS, they would have been nominated. Sondheim would still be recognized but for Company. He's beloved and so is Marianne Elliott. Evo has had his moment, so Caroline would have been a contender, for sure. Since Tony Kushner's legacy never fully played out (Angels being the only play with critical success), perhaps this go round would bring him the win?

I highly doubt Caroline, or Change would have won best revival, in my opinion. I think it's a great production with a heartbreaking leading performance but it is completely overshadowed by Company and West Side Story that attempt to reinvent the show.

Again, West Side Story...too political. Many Tony voters are too old to go to the theatre. They give their tickets to their kids/grandkids and base their votes on the NY Times review. So, I imagine Company would have fared better than WSS in that regard. In terms of performances, Patti would have been a shoe in. Simard, best featured. But at this point...they will have to wait a long time. The Tony's won't happen in 2020.

Hi Kennedy, you said, "Many Tony voters are too old to go to the theatre. They give their tickets to their kids/grandkids and base their votes on the NY Times review." Do you know this to be fact? What is your source? If true, I'm very surprised by this.

I can name a handful of people who don't go and vote. Which means there are many more.
