COMPANY revival recording
Posted: 3/24/20 at 1:50pm
I can't imagine Equity would allow the entire company and orchestra work at the minute. I also can't imagine the producers would want to part with the money it takes to record a cast recording right now - the priority is to have enough money to ride out the next few weeks and re-open when things get a bit better.

...their priority right now is focusing on whether they can re-open at all, not spend more money.

It's a fun thought, but not feasible whatsoever. As Kad said, their main focus is ensuring this production is able to return when Broadway reopens. Chris Harper (lead producer) has said multiple times on social media that they will be back, but obviously anything can change.

This is about safety, not your own need for a cast album. Yuck.

The OP specified the condition that it would be need to be done safely. Clearly that’s unlikely to be possible but come on what is this false outrage.

If the production doesn't end up opening––hopefully hopefully hopefully not the case––then I'd really hope they record it when safely able. It would be a shame not to have this almost entirely new cast and the updated orchestrations preserved...

Seriously? Are you not paying attention to what is happening around the world?

I just don't get it either. This issue has also brought out people's entitlements like I never imagined.
Yes, let's put dozens of people together in a studio right now. No one can go out, but let's all hang out to record a show that may not even open.

This is one I would hope would reopen as currently cast, but I have no idea what it will add to the opening budget if performances don't start until June, July or August, as some have proposed as possible (not to mention how slowly it will be for box-office momentum to build). I would think that, if some cast members are unavailable, the only one who would both sell tickets and be pretty irreplaceable would be Patti Lupone. There has certainly been a lot of disagreement re Lenk's performance, and I am not sure how many tickets Lenk sells beyond the type of people on this board.
Replacements may not be as good as some of the people currently cast, but we all know that there are an incredible number of talented people out there who Coldplay the roles brilliantly, if given the opportunity.
I mention this because, other than possibly Lupone, this is not a situation like Va Woolf or The Hangmen, i.e., limited engagements with roles harder to replace if needed. It seems to me that it comes down to finances and Lupone.

Especially as one cast member has already tested positive for COVID-19. Although I'm a big fan of Katrina Lenk and would love to one day own a BCR of this show,it will definitely have to wait. Not a priority right now.

If it remains closed and after the disease dies down, I hope all cancelled shows do cast albums. To give us a bit cheer.

"I'd love a cast recording too, but there really isn't a safe way to do that right now. Hopefully, we'll still get one in the future even if the show doesn't open."

While acknowledging that the request is an improbability, it certainly would cheer up many on this board if it came to fruition...me included.

we all want one but not till the virus is gone and probably won't get one till end of the year or next year-we are practicing social distancing here in NYC and pretty much shut down and no way to find a safe way as nobody is working (outside their home) unless you are an essential biz...btw, where do you live?

Why are you so rude? I'm genuinely curious as to what motivates you to take the time to type a response like that.

BdwayLife: I feel the same way. Same with all those who attacked this really innocent post. All this talk about "don't you know what's going on in this world!!!!" and yet these same people continue to be...rude. It's not difficult to be nice. We need that a lot more than usual.

Matt Doyle reiterates multiple times here that he is very confident that Company will return. The producers are in for the long haul.

Thanks Play Esq. The OP was being hopeful, joyful, and I agree, there was an endearing quality to his/her plea. Sometimes I wonder if some people on here forget this is a theatre chat board.
In response to several threads created over this past week, these same people criticise their value, even shaming them for having hopes, disappointments, fantasies, etc. It's so demeaning.
Let a person express disappointment over their favorite show being cancelled, or trip cancelled, etc. People don't need to respond with "you're entitled, people are dying, loosing their jobs, etc."
We are all well-aware of what is happening in our world.

No, we didn't forget we are on a chat board, but I think you did. People on chat boards come from all over the world, with different backgrounds, and all have different opinions on different things. We also express things differently and that's okay. I think it's a tone deaf post, you can think differently. And that's a beautiful thing.
If you are too sensitive, "triggered" or think our views are "bullying", feel free to go somewhere else.

I’m neither sensitive, triggered, or think what is occurring here is bullying, per se.
All that I’m trying to say, and I believe BdwayLife agrees, is that we can all just try to be less rude and express a little more niceties to people. Even if it’s just for now. A pretty simple idea that people from
all walks of life, from different backgrounds, and those with different opinions would probably all agree is the right thing to do.
I seriously don’t understand why this is so hard, but I’m sure you or someone else will explain that one to me.
