Cher Show Appreciation

So I tried to find a thread on this but I mainly found posts that just included The Cher Show in terms of what awards it will win and predictions on Tony Awards performances.



Does anyone else completely love this musical? I saw it this week and was completely inspired. Maybe I'm less critical, and just wanted to have a good time, which I did, but I found it inspirational. Just me?

I LOVE IT!   I have seen it 4 times.   

Is it Hamilton?  Is it Sondheim? Is it My Fair Lady?  No

Is it a fun evening?  Definitely

I loved the costumes, the dancing, the good looking dancers, and the music.   For me a moment to just enjoy.    In many ways it reminds me of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the joy that musical brought to me.

I loved the first half. 

I'm a child of the 70's, so during moments when Jarrod Spector started "I've Got You Babe"  -  and the balls came down with the Sonny and Cher caricatures and Teal and Jarrod starting doing the "short" puns it was like a fun trip through time and I was back in mom and dad's living room watching the show (my dad thought Cher was hot).  

And then the second half seemed to be adrift, perhaps falling victim to trying to dramatize in one evening the life of a person who has had a roller coaster life over several decades.  And I wasn't aware that the Finale was the end of the show until the lights went down - like "oh, really, that's the end?"

Oh gosh. I don’t like when people compare shows like that. I understand, but I just don’t like it. They’re completely different and you can’t compare them like that. 

 

However, I did find it to be a fun, inspirational night at the theater. And I  can’t get the songs out of my head.

The Cher Show is my probably my favorite of the jukebox bio-musicals. I've seen it 4 times as well, and agree that it's an absolute blast with great music and amazing performances/costumes. It's not the greatest Broadway musical of all time, but such a fun night!! Hoping to win lotto and return to the Neil Simon soon. :)

I only went because on of my best friends (Music&Passion, hey boo!) on here got us free tickets. I ended up loving it so much. I'm a sucker for a BIG spectacle. Gimme more dance, more costumes, more colors and this show def. delivered.

I’ve seen it twice (and those who know me know I never see a show more than once unless it’s special to me).

I’m also someone who claims Cher as their patron diva and this show gave me literally everything I wanted and more. It leans into the camp instead of shying away from it, and also makes good use of the triumvirate central character, far better than Summer EVER could. The three acting as basically a snarky Greek chorus for each other is my favorite aspect

yeah, personally I feel it's the best jukebox musical ever. Block is a force and hopefully wins her first Tony. The choreography & costumes are stunning. Hoping to see it again soon.

I was excited about this show ever since I heard that it was in development.  I was not the least bit disappointed!  Getting a chance to see it on opening night in Chicago and one more time before it left for Broadway was great!  The Bob Mackie costume parade and Stephanie J. Block were the highlights for me.  If I lived in NYC, I would try for the lottery every day and see the show over and over!  Michaela Diamond is a complete treasure as well!...

I can’t get over that it’s her Broadway debut!! She totally owns her time on state and especially with Jarrod Spector—they’re amazing together! I’ve had “I’ve got you babe” stuck in my head.

I love The Cher Show. I've been following the show since it was announced in September of 2017. I sadly did not get to see the show in Chicago but I followed it through the message boards on here. Lucky for me, I've been able to see the show 6 times on Broadway, including the first preview and be in the actual Cher's presence at a few of the shows! I'm going for a 7th time tomorrow for a final time before I come back to the city in October! I just love this show so much and it deserves the BEST!

I'm a huge Cher fan and I've seen the show 3 times (Twice in Chicago and once on Bway.) I think it's a tremendous show and a great entertainment. However, I think the book is incredibly weak. Fortunately everything else rises above. SJB is giving a master class on that stage. They better give her that Tony. 

Micaela is a star. I can't wait to see what she does next. She proves that you don't have to look like someone to play them. She looks very little like Cher but her commitment supersedes this. She is a force of nature and I believe every minute. Whereas, Teal looks physically exactly like Cher in the 70s but I really never believed her. She didn't transcend the costume. 

I thought the book was better in Chicago (less stuffed and more depth) and also made sense with the title "The Cher Show" as that was the framing device which was tossed for Broadway and makes people think they are seeing a Cher concert.
