Chicago The Musical Appreciation Thread

Posted: 3/17/20 at 8:03am

Hi all. On this day, March 17, 2011, I saw "Chicago" for the very first time. Prior to that, I hadn't given the show much thought. Since then, I have had the opportunity to see the show 25 times (plus one concert version). Here is a link of the pictures with me at those shows. https://photos.app.goo.gl/1FRdFveGUUG8thH9A

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Ooops, I forgot. Yesterday, March 20, 2020 was the 9th anniversary that I started this thread with regards to my favorite musical.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPtdfojnTb4 This is the fabulous Michele de Jean as Roxie Hart. The video is kind of iffy at times, but her performance is out of this world! I regret that I never had the chance to see her on her return as Roxie in 2018.

Even though that wasn't shot at the Ambassador, that clip definitely warmed my heart. One of my most treasured current Broadway shows and the last one i saw before this awful pandemic. That felt very nice to see the final number again.

That was wonderful!

James T. Lane was also there. They probably grabbed whoever was available for this.

I don't think it's a recent picture. More than likely, there will be members from the most recent cast.

Can we get Carly Hughes back as Velma, please? At this point, with a few breaks, AFW has been playing Velma for just about half of the show’s run.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
