"A chorus of wows for Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY on film. Everything about this entity - from the multi-media nature of the presentation (a fully-produced and staged concert production recorded for film) to the fact it was broadcast in movie theaters worldwide (and will be available on DVD and Blu-ray in 2012) to the impossibly starry cast itself - is as unique as the concept musical by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth upon which it is based."
It was great to see it live at Lincoln Center, but would love to see it again at home. Missed it in the theatres. Who has the rights, aside from Steve Sondheim? Come on, NY Philharmonic, bring it on!
Given the number of extra dates the film played in my small, but semi-sophisticated (i.e. half-gay) town, I find it hard to believe a DVD wouldn't make a profit.
I hope this happens! I wouldn't mind a recording of the current Follies cast while we're at it but I'm pushing my luck with that...
I too was pleasently surprised at the extra dates added to the theater in my small UNsophisticated town. There were more people in the theatre for this than when I went to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
The last I heard, the DVD plan was off. But I think there is definitely something that we can do to get it released. Is anyone interested in starting some sort of group and tweeting/posting to the Kennedy Center's facebook regularly? If enough of us do it, something will get done.
Ack, for some reason I thought Company was at the KC. I guess I'm getting my "Sondheim revivals which need to be released on DVD immediately" confused.
