Who's orchestrating this? It says "all new arrangements."
Oh, exciting!
If it's Michael Starobin than we may get the wonderful Not A Day Goes By/ What Can You Lose? Medley that was brilliantly performed by Billy Porter and Audra MacDonald.
I love medleys, especially when elegantly done. MOVING ON has a lot of nice stuff, but Starobin or Tunick could come up with some brilliant duets and trios.
Also, I hope there is a more esoteric focus... The SINGING OUT LOUD and DICK TRACY material is fantastic and a lot of FOLLIES would be wonderful. ANYONE CAN WHISTLE has a ton of great material, as well ("Me and My Towm", "Come Play Wiz Me", "Everybody Says Don't", "There Won't Be Trumpets", "There's Always A Woman", "Anyone Can Whistle", "With So Little To Be Sure Of", "See What it Gets You", "I've Got You To Lean On", ETC. -sheesh).

SOOOO EXCITED...please god don't have Roundabout mess this up between now and March...
TONY AWARDS 2010:
BEST NEW MUSICAL: Sondheim on Sondheim
BEST REVIVAL: A Little Night Music
Yes please.
PS PGenre- I quite agree about Anyone Can Whistle!
Wow the thought of a Kritzer/Williams "Everyday A Little Death" gave me a mini-orgasm. That would be all kinds of fabulous.
How about Vanessa Williams singing Sooner Or Later from Dick Tracy?

Sounds like I'll have to schedule a trip for this next spring.
Vanessa isn't a big deal in terms of CD sales anymore, but I do think she's gained a certain amount of respect in the theatre community over time. Other than Barbara Cook, she's the main draw for me.
Might the Tonys categorize this as a special theatrical event rather than a new musical?

Not unless they reinstate the category... Remember they got rid of it.

Which was one of their worst decisions ever.

And even then, I think it'd come down to Wishful Drinking or Sondheim on Sondheim.
Next spring is exciting for Sondheim enthusiasts... this, A Little Night Music will still be playing, and the Encores! production of Anyone Can Whistle.

I'm having the hardest time figuring out what the other shows the letters are from.

Same here. I thought the N was from SUNDAY and the S was from ROAD SHOW, but now I can't find any artwork that matches. Are they really from Sondheim shows, or do we just think that because the O matches FOLLIES?
If they are from shows, then I'm sad that Sweeney gets no representation. If only the S in Sondheim was the bloody S from the original Sweeney logo.
This should be incredible. Why isn't it 2010 yet?
I know it's already been stated in this therad..
but I cannot believe what an incredible season this will be for Sondheim fans
A Little Night Music
Anyone Can Whistle (Encores!)
Sondheim on Sondheim (basically replacing Roundabout's Merrily revival that fell through)
I do hope we get a Merrily revival soon though!

Can someone please post a link to the poster? I can't see it for some reason
As excited as I am for this (and I am VERY excited) I do wish "Merrily..." was happening. It is one of my favorite plays and Broadway needs a good production of it.

Here's a larger version of the poster.
More about the show here.
They will be using 64 plasma screens!

I had trouble seeing the poster too so thank you for posting it!
A Little Night Music + Anyone Can Whistle + Sondheim on Sondheim? Oh my god, so exciting! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
Even if the Special Theatrical Event category existed, which it doesn't, I couldn't see this being put there. It's clearly a revue. If Chita Rivera's show, which should have been a Special Event, qualified as a new musical this would too.
If FOSSE could win best musical, then this probably could too.
This is an extremely weak year for new musicals so far.
