So sad but not at all unexpected. I wish they'd been able to get a cast that actually excited people to buy tickets.
Their recent grosses were just horrible. Glad I got to see this, though, it was an immensely interesting piece.
Bummer. I saw Laurie twice but didn't hear any word of mouth about Julie. Is it worth it to go back before closing?
The decision to extend the show always seemed like an ARROGANT ploy by SCOTT RUDIN to try to win the TONY anyway... Whatever!
I implore anyone considering to make a return visit to GO - Julie is sensational in the role, and Stephen is a treat, too. The show was passed down masterfully and is in wonderful shape. Forgot just how poignant and funny it is until I made my return visit a few weeks ago.

Well, it had a good run- and I loved the play- it will not be forgotten- I bet regional theaters will have a heyday with this.
Would love to see this tour in the same fashion as view from the bridge!

I'd say a tour is highly unlikely, but I expect this to be a popular property with regional theaters in the coming years.

Totally agree. I wasn't at all sure what to expect but ended up really enjoying it.
I concur, AC126748. I know people in my county are already biting at the bit to get the rights.
Shame it couldn't keep selling with the new cast. This will be one of the most produced plays by regional theaters next year for sure.
We saw this on Saturday (TKTS, row K, center) and loved it. We're huge Julie White fans and loved Stephen in "Riverside". He blew us away with this performance.
That's too bad but it had a great run and I think completely exceeded everyone's expectations. I'm sure it'll have a great regional life. I'm excited to see what Hnath does next.
Bummer. I never got to see it, but A Doll's House is one of my favorite plays. That said, does anyone outside of savvy theatre people and academics even know the play? I'm curious how Part 2 will fair regionally.

A Doll's House is still one of the most frequently produced "classic" plays around -- in my area, I can think of at least three productions from larger regional houses in the last 1-2 years, and one more coming up this season. I would also not be the least bit surprised if theaters started packaging A Doll's House with ADHP2 in rep, or doing both plays in one season. You also don't really need to know the original to understand/enjoy ADHP2.
It's a four-person comedy with a unit set and plum rolls for older actresses fresh off of a notable Broadway run.
It will be done everywhere.
What will also be fun/inevitable: Acting pairs who played Nora/Torvald in Ibsen's DH returning to their theatrical roots years later to play Hnath's characters.

I didn't love this play -- I thought it was a brilliant idea not fleshed out enough -- but I think it is a terrible shame that the longest running play of the 2016 - 2017 season could only manage a run of 25 weeks, and lets not forget how many of those performances were to half-filled and / or heavily discounted audiences. It is just awful what is happening to Broadway straight plays. Even Lincoln Center always seems to be looking for a long-run for the Beaumont, which should be doing rep a la the National Theatre or RSC in London.Where does it end?
I have this fear -- and i KNOW I'm being a little melodramatic -- that, 10 years from now, all we are going to be seeing are mega long runs, e.g., now in its 10th Year, Welcome to Margarittaville, now playing at the Booth, cartoons, juke box musicals, 1 serious new musical a season, the Roundabout and MTC.

I can see this having a real healthy life in colleges as well. Especially if professors make their students attend a performance after studying A Doll House (I know most people use A Doll's House, but I prefer A Doll House as the translation). Though the closing date is sad news, I think this play has been a success in that it was able to forge a unique identity outside the classic and not be a disaster of A Doll's Life proportions. I understand the criticisms that it didn't seem as fleshed out as it could have been and it came off as more of a feminist dissertation going through peer review at times, but I had a great time when I saw it and provided moments of true unexpected laughter. I'd love to see a performance of this again for non-Broadway prices.

Someone earlier said it was a comedy- and it was funny in parts- but the characterization of an extremely strong willed woman- or person- who does not let society influence their life choices- who takes total responsibility for their choices- is very apt for these times- for any times, really. The play has an important message and that will resonate with audiences everywhere.

The thing that surprised me about the extension was the new cast. Let's think about it for a second: a Scott Rudin produced play on Broadway, with four wonderfully written roles by a fresh young voice in American Theatre, 4 top of their game actors to replace, 8 tony nominations, including all four roles/performers in the play (the iconic lead character role actually winning it), and a director many would chomp at the bit to work with. How could they not get anyone marketable? For a show that had to really build up its advance and word of mouth to run, they really didn't do anything substantial to keep people talking.
