greeny11, Randolph was in the show in London for way less than five weeks. If I recall correctly, she performed there for less than three weeks, and she didn't even do all the performances during that window of time (she was rotating with the regular understudy.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
@KylePKJP--Hope you and your nephew are feeling better. But surely you can understand why someone may need to call out of a show, even if it is the second preview.
Ah right OK - I was told 5 weeks but am happy to concede it was less than that. My point still stands that she's played the role before, it's just her Broadway debut, not her first time in the role.
@Broadway61004 - I think you need to go back and read what I wrote because I never said anything to the contrary.
First preview, second preview, opening night, night after Tony Awards - if you gotta call out, you gotta call out. Why does it matter to anyone here what performance she called out on? Randolph's health is more important than any ticket buyer's concern over why she was out the second preview. Good lord, the scandal!
Per a friend who is at the show now, she is still out.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

Moya Angela played the role again tonight. While you could tell that she didn't have a lot of rehearsal, she still was incredible and completely won over the audience.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It has not become a "Fat Black Stereotype". The, so far, two actors who have played it have been someone heavy but that doesn't mean it is necessary for the part. One of the understudies is very thin.
Not only was she back in, but she was back in with a VENGEANCE! She was absolutely awesome. She walked away with the show. I saw Ghost in London last August and Sharon D Clarke was by far the best thing about it. That being said, I liked Da'Vine so much more. SO much more. While I would love to see Moya in the role too, Da'Vine was absolutely spectacular. She will definitely be a strong contender for the Featured Actress in a Musical Tony.
I disagree. I have nothing against the young lady, but she is not at all comfortable in the role, especially in her numbers. The role is fun and funny as written, and she does alot with her scenes, but drops her character during her numbers. I'm hoping she fills in the gaps and becomes more comfortable moving through her numbers. I also hope she's more present onstage if the focus isnt on her. And for her sake, I hope they get rid of that damn luggage she has to scale. Worst staging ever!!
She seemed to know it at the curtain call too.
