Jesus Christ. Really? ANOTHER thread? And from someone who loves to micromanage the organization and order of discussions on here, no less. Ugh.
Didn't they confirm that Diggs and Goldsberry re-upped their contracts recently for an unspecified amount of time? I have a hard time believing that Diggs only extended one week... What happened?
There should be a separate message board on here for HAMILTON.
is this the "weird thing" that's supposedly happening today? 'cause it's pretty darn weird

Oh Liza.
Just remember you in the past on here or one of your other names you used to have. Don't throw stones/shade at others. It's not becoming.

Also leaving on a Friday? Don't show contracts usually go through the week the shows plays (like last Saturday evening being the last performance of the week?).

I don't know what happened here but this couldn't have been planned. Why in the world would they extend one of their leads one week later than the date that the others were leaving???? Somethings up.

It's entirely possible he has a vacation day or two that factors into him leaving before the end of the playing week.
By Saturday, of the three Hamilton Tony performance winners, only one will remain. And the Tonys were barely a month ago.

This is just such late notice. I assume they wanted to avoid the backlash of a lot of the principals leaving at the same time-but really? Two days before?

No, they didn't confirm that. It was speculation. Apparently Diggs' contract didn't work out. Either that or they extended him for one week, because it would look bad for 4 of them to leave last week.
BroadwayConcierge, no need to be so dramatic. These actors have been doing Hamilton since 2014. You can't blame them.
Not blaming them whatsoever, Neon! I wish them all power! I'm just saying, objectively speaking, that after branding multiple Tony winners, barely a month is an unusually short time for a Broadway production to have so many names depart. But I'm 100% behind them individually.
Wow, this is unexpected. They really like to keep us on our toes regarding cast changes. Two day lead time!
And ugh, Daveed is so damn good and I was hoping to see him again when I go in October. I hope this means at least that he has other great projects lined up for us to see.
He probably performed a few shows with the replacement cast and went "....NOPE! I'm outta here."
So I guess the hype will quietly die down until Manuel returns for a limited run?

Yup I'm sure that totally happened. Definitely.

But Hamilton opened last summer. Shows don't usually do that. Hence why they all are leaving "barely a month" after the Tonys.

@Skimbleshanks2: He probably got an offer from Seller and went..."NOPE! I'm outta here."
Seller & Co seem hellbent on making this show less about "the stars" in order to keep the money machine moving. Thus far, they seem to be failing in that regard.
Ironically, it's now cheaper to see the show in NYC than in Chicago.

Hahahahaha, I love this. I'm sure this is the answer.
I know it's different because none of them were tony winners, but was there backlash when 3 main cast members left wicked a month after the Tonys?

I guess the speculation got reported as fact, because this seems written pretty clearly:
Reps for the show confirmed that Tony winners Daveed Diggs and Renee Elise Goldsberry, as well as fellow original principals including Christopher Jackson, Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones, have renewed their contracts and will remain with the production for an unspecified time.

Not that The Hollywood Reporter is a premiere Broadway source, but I knew I read it somewhere.

Maybe he's taking a break before opening the Chicago production?

Also, if he was departing for a movie gig or something like that, wouldn't they mention it? Like an onion, I think there are many layers to this story!
