somethingwicked -- Emily is Miranda's first assistant and who is responsible for hiring the 'new' 2nd assistants.
Andrea "Andy" Sachs is our protagonist -- the one who applies and gets the 2nd assistant job in the story.
Emily is older than Andy, therefore Julia fits the bill in more ways than one.

You've all missed the boat. UTE LEMPER was born to play Miranda in a Broadway version of Devil. UTE is Miranda incarnate!!!! I love me some Ute.
Betty would be great but is far too frumpy and not patrician enough for Miranda. Physically, Miranda would never succumb to what Buckley currently looks like.

Buckley will go back to the gym - it will be fine.
(love you too, gpmal)

I love Rath!!!

I like the idea of Jenn Gamby in the Anne Hathaway role.
I think she would be amazing!

Betty Buckley?!? She's tipping the
scales at about 175lbs these days.
Doesn't fit for a chic magazine editor.

People have been known to lose weight.
Actually, Debra Monk played a character that was practically Miranda on Desperate Housewives recently. She'd be wonderful too. Again with the hitting the gym, but it's nothing new in showbiz.

Ew, don't put me in your class of fatties, Rath. You know I'm 5'10, 103 pounds. I'm working on getting those last three off, though.

Bitch! I know you took those out of my purse! I'd make you throw them up, but then you'd hit 100 before me.
I apologize to all of those reading this thread for this very off-topic threadjack. Have a lovely day.

Not to knock Ms Monk, but she looked HUGE on Housewives.
I didn't even recognize her.

BrodyFosse123, I have read the novel and seen the film and know exactly who Emily is.
It is said that, after a year of working as Miranda's assistant, one can be promoted elsewhere. Considering Emily is being elevated to the secondary assistant, it is to assume that she has been working for Miranda for about a year. Since an assistant is an entry level position, factor in a year after she's finished college and the character should be about 23.
Julia does not look anything like a 23 year old.

"Confessions of a Mad Black Woman" is a musical. They called it "Dreamgirls."
If they went by the book, it would be a little better. And, for some reason, I see Miranda as a drag role.
