Devil Wears Prada: The Musical

This movie MUST be a musical.. how can it NOT be done?

How about Patti as Meryl?

Jeanine Tesori, Jason Robert Brown, or Stephen Schwartz as composer?

What would be your ideal cast/composer?

"How about Patti as Meryl?"

Or how about Meryl as Meryl? That would be awesome if she reprised her role on the stage.

Yikes, please don't let Stephen Schwartz any where near it. All his belly synthesizers would probably damage those delicate fabrics.

I'd want Marc Shaiman to write the score and Betty Buckley to play Meryl.

ahh Marc WOULD be awesome!

i just hope we see this one day.. if "Legally Blonde" and "Wedding Singer" can get musicals, I sure hope this can! I love the above movies, but Prada is just a GREAT comedy itching to be a musical.

Oh, I agree. I think it could be fabulous. I think Miranda should be a rich, diva-licious role with belt belt and more belt. Otherwise, something that Meryl doesn't have the chops to pull of onstage. Patti would be fab. And Sherie Rene Scott as Andrea.

While I love the movie, don't you think we should be encouraging more original work?

I'd love to see Sondheim take a stab at it! That won't happen. Marc is probably the best choice.

Patti Lupon or Megan Mullally as Miranda Priestly!

I just watched the movie for the first time today, and I have to say I wouldn't like like a belting Miranda. Watching Meryl was a study in quiet intensity. If the show was made into a musical, which I'm not saying is a bad idea as a source, then the role would have to be reconceived.

Anne Hathaway could probably sing her part beautifully, any of you see her vid at the sondheim benefit? she's pretty good! I like the idea of meryl's miranda, and i think i'd be better if miranda didn't belt angrily, but that she had almost a conversational alto in the office and maybe a bit more singing when she's all alone, wallowing in self-pity cause her husband is leaving.

re: Devil Wears Prada: The Musical

Let Meryl and Anne reprise their roles onstage. And if Emily Blunt can't sing, let her part have no singing lines as her onscreen performance is brilliant and I'd love to see her reprise it on a stage.

I think that since the show has to be longer they should make Tracie Thoms' part larger since she can sing, I'd love her in it!

re: Devil Wears Prada: The Musical

With THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA...are we talking about adapting the novel or the film-version? Both had totally different tones, though they were quite similar.

re: Devil Wears Prada: The Musical

I actually think this is a fun idea for a musical. Many possibilities. And, lukeboy, a huge majority of musicals are adapted from films, plays, and books. It would be original as long as it wasn't a carbon copy of the film or book.

Boq, have you read the book? The Tracie Thoms role IS much larger in the book. There's a whole subplot involing Lily that's important to the narrative.
