Is it still a fairly popular show rn?
Considering how it still makes over $1,000,000 a week, I think it's gonna be a long while.
What made you think it has any chance of closing? It grosses well over a million a week. It's not closing anytime soon.

Yes, Song of the South is coming in summer 2017.

DROPS MIC.
Song of the South would tour well in the bible belt. They should get on that.
It will be closing for a revival of Wonderland.
I'm going to give it a few more years. It's a fantastic show, and in my personal opinion, one of the best shows produced by Disney Theatricals. I think it's going to pull a Lion King move and move to a different theatre to make way for another Disney production. It's more successful than Mary Poppins

I really think there should be awards for best replies on chat boards, and the song of the south line wins 2016 already!

Absolutely no way is it closing soon. It does incredibly well every show.
I think it'll run another 5-6 years, then close or move so that Frozen can take the New Amsterdam.

The New Amsterdam is a beautiful theatre. I mean, that's an understatement. It's amazingly gorgeous and uniquely designed but, at least watching Aladdin, the stage seemed small. Would it be big enough for Frozen?
It was big enough for Lion King and before that the Ziegfeld Follies

It doesn't seem like Disney is planning on waiting five years to open Frozen. So if Aladdin is not ready to close in the next year or two either it will be moving to a new home or Frozen will not be opening at the New Amsterdam.

Alladin is approaching its 1000th show later this summer, which puts it in the rare company of the longest running broadway musicals of all time.
The grosses are consistently high and audience reviews are great. stand outside the show when they let out and check out the audience reaction....it will run for at least another five years, imo.
They did a great job with alladin on the stage transfer. its a fun show that has disneys best of entertaining that can appeal to both kids and adults. Ive only seen it once but will go again and see the tour
i think broadway can handle lion king, alladin and frozen all running simultaneously for a long long time

Frozen is already set to go in St James.

The box office will soar when Loretta Swit takes over the role of Jasmine. Imagine how well she'll look in that costume!
No. I don't. What had you ask this question, OP??

Be kind to the OP. Remember, Cindy Adams is a regular visitor here.

Disney has pretty deep pockets, so who knows how long they'll want to keep it open. My guess is 2-3 more years. Maybe more, who knows, other than Disney.

The deepest pockets.
I'm a big fan, having worked for the company for ten years.
But let's face it. They have the billions of dollars it takes to have the best costumes, the best sets, the best everything. They should have long-running shows of the highest quality. There's no excuse not to.
That being said, however, when one of their shows doesn't strike a positive nerve with audiences, those same billions are so deep that they can even absorb the shows that maybe don't do "as well" as others.
I liked Aladdin. But I also liked Aladdin at Disney's California Adventure. The carpet actually flew out over the audience (until it malfunctioned, well into its run, and was largely put to bed). And the guy I saw play the Genie was fantastic. Personally I thought he was just as good as Iglehart, just a different take on the role.
The theme parks of Disney put on such great shows that I'll always be somewhat interested in seeing how they translate some of these shows to Broadway now. From the ones I've seen I would describe them as the theme park shows on steroids. They have to stand out, of course, because it's Broadway. And Disney has the billions of dollars to make that happen. So it should happen.
Sometimes they misfire a bit, but the billions are there to cover that too.

Yes, but I think Frozen will move after 3-4 years so that it can continue running in a Disney house.

Let's not forget that they closed Newsies rather prematurely. It obviously wasn't doing as well as Aladdin is now but the closing was unexpected and it was doing a lot better than shows that decide not to close.
I'm not suggesting it will close soon but I also don't think it will have a run anywhere close to The Lion King.
