My favorite bit by far was the "harpooned/rooned" diction lesson. Really great stuff, but without knowledge (sometimes shot by shot knowledge) of the original, it'll be lost on most people. But who cares? Most people suck.

I loved it. Great attention to detail and lovingly made. If only it were as long as the original though. I was hoping for a spoof of the scene where Sondheim explains how he got to Broadway but also glad the "Bubbi" moment got parodied.

Loved it. The Sondheim impression was great. And Stritch....lol. I hope they do the Follies Concert Documentary. Imagine what they would do for the moment when Stritch changes her shoes while Barbara Cook sings.

For me a fail. If you write crappy lyrics then you are not parodying properly. The lyrics are filled with rancid false rhymes. I don't find this kind of thing funny anyway - a bunch of people dressed like the real people, aping the same things the real people did. Glad others are having it - I'm not.

Is it important to be familiar with the source material? I know Company but not the documentary.

I think the original film MUST be somewhere online. I highly recommend close viewing of it once before watching this, but I'd say there's enough humor (and some of the lyric lines are funny-- the coke song is great) for it to be enjoyable with just passing knowledge or just memories of seeing the Stritch segment, etc.
Look, I am typically the perfect rhyme gestapo and still cringe in the theatre at false rhymes and glaring misaccents, but I've mellowed when it comes to parody. Of course it's Sondheim-esque, but it's supposed to be BAD Sondheim. The show closed on opening night. So it makes sense to me that the songwriter with the over inflated beta male ego who thinks he's a genius is terrible. Also... it's a f*cking parody.
Richard Kind is a strange sort of genius, by the way.

The now-legendary 1970 D.A. Pennebaker documentary ORIGINAL CAST ALBUM: COMPANY is on YouTube. It is in 6 parts but its the entire 50 minute documentary. Sadly, the original intentions of this being a series never happened.

I never paid him any attention until he hosted SNL earlier this season. I became obsessed in seconds. His dry sense-of-humor fits me like a glove and I’ve lost count how many of his projects I’ve watched. His Netflix stand-up special is a full 10-course meal.

There doesn't appear to be a digital release of the songs yet.
I think the vinyl release cover was just a joke to fit the 70's vibe.
Is there an official source that the songs will indeed be released as an audio?

I thought it was a little too "on the nose"...
Sondheim corrected diction, so Mulaney corrected diction...
The names were too close, etc...
I think Richard Kind was hilarious and an excellent homage to the original while still being it's own thing.
And the single best thing was that they announced they were closing, but they never did anything with it really...
It would have been so great if that had been peppered through the whole thing, and maybe it could have completely fallen apart by the end or something.
