DF loves the little children, all the children of the world black and yellow, gay or straight, they are perfect in her light DF loves all the children of the world-Dame Fanadette
I've attended many an advance EW screening, so I would venture to say at least one-hour prior to the screening. It's a first-come; first-serve scenario, so don't stray too far. Once they set-up the sign-in table (if they haven't already), they start letting in people quickly.
I'm attending the Chicago screening tomorrow night and I'm planning on getting there at 5pm just to secure seats. I can't imagine THAT many people will be there at 5pm, but I could be wrong. The friend who's going with me tomorrow night called the theater yesterday and they said they wouldn't be letting people inside the theater until about 6:30, so I'm thinking 5pm will be plenty early enough. It's not like I care where I sit or anything, just as long as I get to sit and watch, lol.
Anyway, I can't wait for tomorrow night, it can't come quickly enough.
I'm going an hour early tomorrow in Austin. Eeeee!
Wrong, sir. Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy - "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained," et cetera, et cetera..."Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera..."Memo bis punitor delicatum"! It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!
I'll see you in DC Jimmy_B; I swear if I hear anyone singing along...
TheAct, I am not sure...I know for the screenings they had on 11/15 everyone said they hardly checked tickets and theatres were half empty; I almost wished I could have gone just to see what happens;
"Observe how bravely I conceal this dreadful dreadful shame I feel."
That's good news. I think I'm gonna try to buy tickets to something else and sneak in. It's not like I'm not going to pay see this fourteen MORE times.

Yes...they overbook these EW Screenings (expected some to not show up), so once they reach capacity, you won't be let in.
The 11/15/06 screenings were Advance Press Screenings, so it was only for press, not the general public, which is why they turned-out quite empty. EW Screenings are for the general public, so they will be packed, especially with all the press and media coverage the film has garnered SINCE 11/15/06.
I would get there at least an hour early to get a good seat -- this is not the film you want to see up close with 30 feet wide stretched-out faces, etc.
Hey no Deena, this is for the free EW screening in NYC, not the special engagement over at the Ziegfeld. EW screenings are first come, first serve for seating. and plus it starts at 7pm. :)
I haven't done an EW screening in a while, so can someone else tell me, my invite came pre-printed with my name across it ("Anakela and a guest are invited..."), instead of just a generic "you and a guest...," and it said that I would have to show id in my name too. Is this a new thing with EW screenings?
I was actually going to start a thread about the screening tonight and post some thoughts I'm having. Glad to see there is already one! :)
Since I'm seeing it again, I have been thinking a lot about what I liked and did not like about the film my first time seeing it.
I think the reason I did not like it very much was because I love the musical SO F*CKING much. And I think the reason it is getting such amazing reviews is because it is film critics, not theatre critics, who are writing the reviews. They do not have the love and passion for it that most theatre folk have. Also, it is (basically) a pretty faithful stage to screen adaptation (much in the way The Phantom of the Opera film was).
I would be very interested to know what theatre critics are saying about the film. If they have been writing reviews I have missed them. There is so much press out about this film right now I cannot keep up!
Now that I know what the film is I feel like I can go in and just enjoy it, not judge it, which is what 90% of America will be doing when they see it. Going in and just enjoying the film.
When the film version of Chicago came out I knew very little about the musical (only about 3 songs), and I walked out thinking it was the greatest thing since sliced bread! Amazing film in every way! But people who are die hard Chicago fans had other, more critical opinions because they loved the stage show so much. And now that I know what the actual musical Chicago is like, I can see where they are coming from. But I can also just enjoy it for what it is. Which is what I *think* a lot of die hard Dreamgirls fans will have to do with this film. Just enjoy it and love it for what it is, because it is not a bad film in any way, shape, or form. But it's just not, as much as I WISH it was, what Dreamgirls is in my head.
I don't mean to be a downer, I know this is a lot of peoples first time seeing the film. But I'm curious to see if anyone else who saw the film at one of the 11/15 screenings feels the same way, or completely different!
EDIT: Anakela, mine had my name on it too, and had the thing about a photo ID. I doubt they will be checking IDs, but it is first come first serve. Get there early!!!
Also, it is (basically) a pretty faithful stage to screen adaptation (much in the way The Phantom of the Opera film was).
I thought of Dreamgirls as fairly faithful, but not in the way Phantom was. With few exceptions, Phantom was a literal word-for-word translation. Dreamgirls didn't have the near slavish devotion to the original text that Phantom had.

Now I'm getting a little nervous about not getting in!
Hopefully my friend and I will get there in time...but I think if we have a Special ticket, because I won mine in a contest, they should at least guarantee some seating...otherwise, what's the point of the contest?
