Why are you afraid, you can't get there early enough? Did you win them through signing up on EW.COM?

can people get into this without a pass if they get there early enough?

if not, anyone else in NYC going without their "+ guest"? PM me if you're feeling generous.

Marlon... remember me from last times screening?? lol... When I went the theater was totally empty. I got there at 6:30 because the screening was at 7:30 and there were maybe only 10 people there. They didnt even check my name off the list at the door when we were walking in...

they may have checked others names but not mine.

i wish i would have known that because then u could have come with us!!

I would kill to go to this screening again tonight... I should just show up and see what happens!! hahahahaha

Good luck; I figured the 11/15 screenign would be laxed; but everyone I asked about location gave me the same silly "it's for press only" response. so annoying - but alas I get see it in t-mins 1:48 minutes.

Where in NYC is this going to be tonight? At The Ziegfeld?

well Marlo the last screening was an unfortunate situation tho. The guy who called me to "put me on the list" did say that it was completely private and for press only. They made it seem like it was super hush hush. I honestly didnt even know if it was going to be the real deal.

Had i known how easy it was to get in... u know i would have invited you man! i just had no idea.

It was weird... this guy called Jack Morrissey just called me like 2 days before and said he would "put me on a list". lol... but i wasnt even sure if it was real or not.

anyhow... i hope you're not upset with me for the last time.

I wasn't referring to you at all; there were like 20 of us in a Yahoo list serve that were pleading for location in the off-chance that we could get it...no worries! :)

Good luck to all the 'crashers'. I'd be definitely trying that as well tonight if I were in the city.

Seen the film already 3 times, so I can't complain. Now I just have to wait till the Christmas Day opening to see it again. After that...it's open season to "whenever you want".

Whoo-hoo!

I just got in from the Boston screening. They never asked for passes. Everyone just walked in. They were too busy giving out free candy samples instead of asking for passes. I had high expectations for this movie and I can't believe it exceeded all of them. This movie is so good. Jennifer Hudson is amazing. I can't wait to see it again when it is released on Christmas day.

We got there one hour early, but our screening in Austin was only about half full. Anyone could have walked up at the last minute and gotten in. We had great seats though and I loved the movie!

BTW, no one close to me was singing along, but the guy behind gave a constant narration of "that's right!" "yeah," "mmmmmm..hhmmmmMMMMM," "you know IT, "sing it girl," "I hear ya," "oooohhhhhHHHH," and the like. He was so into it was cute. But not that cute. I finally discreetly moved a few seats away.

NYC screening was out of control tonight- my friend got in line at about 5:15pm for the 7pm screening, and we did NOT get in! Even worse the line was cut off like 10 people in front of us.

I don't know who runs the screening at the venue itself- if that was EW staff, or Loewe's staff, etc.- but whoever it was needed some help in getting their stuff together. They let the last few people in at about 7:15pm, and the line stretched from the Loewe's on 34th street down the street to 9th Avenue, and they were still letting people join the line when it was quite obvious that there was no chance in hell that anyone who joined after say the 6pm mark even would be getting in.

It would not surprise me in the least to hear that the theatre inside was full of crashers, since they were taking the screening tickets at the door before you enter the venue itself, rather than taking tickets in front of the actual theatre the screening was being held in. I think the next time I do an EW screening I am just going to get a ticket to something else and then just walk over to the theatre the screening is being held in, and just bypass this whole waiting in line thing altogether.

The night was not a total loss, though- went to the movies and saw Shortbus instead, which was a lot more porny than I thought it was going to be.

I saw it tonight in San Francisco. The line was pretty long at 5:30. They let us into the theatre and we sat down at 6 which was great. The film didn't start until 7. Great performances!

A friend of mine was also at the NY screening. She was lucky enough to get in (her and her friend were the last 2) but was also very frustrated at how things were run. People were cutting and nothing was being done about it. People would walk up towards the front of the line and the staff wouldn't say a word. Needless to say she sat in the front row and her friend sat in the second. She had to close her eyes for most of the film because she kept feeling sick from looking at the screen. You were probably better off seeing Shortbus Anakela!

Here in Chicago they did not even look at our tickets. The line was formed on the lower level of the theatre (the theatres are on the second) and at 630 they had everyone go past the ticket taker, up the stairs and into the theatre. The same thing happened when I went to an EW screening of Brokeback Mountain. And my friend said they only started to check tickets in NY when things started getting crazy.

Thanks for that info Kyle- I am glad we went to Shortbus too now! Seriously, though- between the line cutters and the theatre-hoppers and the staff that was doing absolutely nothing about any of it, it was quite the fuster-cluck at the NYC screening last night. I've been going to EW screenings for years, and I'm on other screenings lists too- I am a first come first served pro, and have never had as miserable a screening experience as I had last night.

Although, my boss did just offer to buy me a $25 Ziegfeld ticket so that I can go see it before Christmas Day, so some good is gonna come out of this. :)

I hate to bring this point again (as I did on a previous post, but I find myself still bitter about last night); did anyone have rude, loud people in their theatres? I think unlike Chicago that truly attracted a theatre crowd and then a crowd that went to see it for its acclaim, Dreamgirls will attract a more loud and rude younger crowd.

CHICAGO attracted mostly suburban female crowd over 40. DREAMGIRLS will attract a mostly urban female crowd under 30. Big demograph difference...

Haha, Chris loves shows! I totally saw you move away from them during the Austin screening!

Wrong, sir. Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy - "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained," et cetera, et cetera..."Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera..."Memo bis punitor delicatum"! It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!

Question about NYC at the Ziegfeld. I got a $25 seat online, and it says that seating will be assigned when you get to the theater....how early can I get there to get my seat, and then get something to eat?

Anyone?

Friends of mine who ordered their tickets online ages ago have already picked up their tickets and they already had a pre-selected seat assignment. I heard those online orders were filled with 'best available' at the time your order was submitted. They are first-come; first-serve, so the early birds who ordered early got the better seats, obviously. If you purchased them directly from the box office in person, you were able to pick and choose your seat location/assignment. You won't be able to select your seat location when you pick up your tickets because your seat assignment has already been selected, plus...most showings are already sold-out.
