Did anybody happen to dive in any dumpsters over by Gypsy today?
Did anybody happen to dive in any dumpsters over by Gypsy today?
I passed Gypsy and Spamalot today... there was a set of stairs from Spamalot (way too big to take...) and they were in the process of taking out some big platform or something from Gypsy. I was hoping to see something small and exciting and I def. would have taken it, but the only things were electrical equipment (which i though would be rude and stupid to take, i'm sure it is expensive) and a make-up case (which is gross!! haha) Updated On: 1/12/09 at 09:23 PM
If only they weren't taking the Chicago production of Wicked on the Road I would totally go diving. Damn.
^They can't take all of it. The new tour will be drawn back further than the current tour.

While I admit that I would LOVE to HAVE something from a production that I loved, I'm not so sure I'd go dumpster diving. But never say never!!!
P.S. From what I saw it is not really dumpster diving... There were no dumpsters. There were hauling trucks that they put the things I presume they are moving to storage or tours/selling and boxes or those large canvas laundry rolling baskets... so I never climbed up and looked in a dumpster, though that would have been more fun
Hmmmmm... maybe I should check it out.
P.S. I did not know the new tour will be scaled back even farther. What are they going to do, throw out the Cherry Picker, and have Elphaba run up a flight of stairs during Defying Gravity?
No the bubble & lift will be staying. It wouldn't be shocking if the dragon gets cut though.
I was being sarcastic.
Ohhhh. It wouldn't be too far off considering the original thought was to have the actress run up a flight of stairs.
Was that really their original concept?! HA!! I sure am glad they scrapped that one.

PRFRMR20, we could have very well passed each other. I went to Spamalot (not to see if there were any, you know, dumpsters or anything...) and snapped a picture of the stairs - they were half of the mountain they climb during "Find Your Grail". On the way back to 8th Ave, guys in front of Gypsy were struggling to load a ridiculously long faux brick wall into the truck.

In front of All My Sons, the tree was lying on the ground. They were loading electrics into trucks and I figured the Local 1 guys wouldn't appreciate me taking the tree that was probably going somewhere.
The 2nd national tour of Wicked will be identical to all the other productions.
Mythus - I am sure we passed each other... those were the stairs (for Find Your Grail) and the guys from Gypsy had basically stopped traffic because the wall was so big! I didn't see anyone taking pictures, but I am sure we were there at the same time, how funny! I really was hoping there would be something to grab (I decided to walk past once and see if I would get lucky). There were a couple of 39 Steps posters around but I didn't care enough to walk home with one, lol. I was hoping for a grail, helmet, sword, lamb, cane, flag, poster, etc... haha but no such luck.

Ok, did my dumpster diving, but I should not have shown up so early - there was nothing there, my friend and I went out to breakfast - they were loading trucks with all the sets from all the shows - everyone said nothing would be thrown out. I saw people leaving the theaters with bags of stuff. Sigh, but none for me.
The only dumpsters I found was in the alley next to Spamalot and some in front of Slavva's snowshow (filled with paper). During lunch break, we snuck into the spamalot one and found thm filled with foam heads of all the characters, but no wigs. Another one was filled with bottles and cups and food from back stage, I guess, and a beat up hassock. Then we found one with lumber and the laker girls punk lights. the lights were part broken, and I guess that is why they were thrown out, they were glued together and did not look repairable. So we left with our one each souvenir. Not a great find, but all the shows must be storing everything to recoup as much as possible.

*bump* I had mentioned the whole RENT thing early on when it was first mentioned that RENT was closing. I figured there would be rentheads crazy enough to buy anything!

They were clearing out the Neil Simon today also--btw. I noticed a couple of posters have been torn and left up--probably after failed attempts to get them off completely.
I can only imagine what'll be 'left behind' when Spring Awakening closes.

I can just picture the Spring Awakening fans bring folding chairs (on closing night) and singing (and dancing) "The Bitch Of Closing."

I'm curious, back in 2006, I wonder if anyone mistaked "The Wedding Singer" dumpster for a real one.
I believe a lot of the Wedding Singer set pieces were brought to the Non-Eq tour.
Not 100% sure, though...
