kudos to Elf for returning this year. I wonder which Christmas show will be more successful; this, A Christmas Story(Lunt) or The Grinch(MSG).
How many friggin' holiday shows do we NEED?!
I guess they need a filler before the Into the Woods transfer. I heard 'Elf' was dreadful.
Into the Woods is NOT going into the Hirschfeld, Kinky Boots is. Reidel has no clue what he writes and his "sources" are garbage, he wrote that after the cast of the out-of-town try out of Kinky Boots already got the word they booked the Hirschfeld.
And not one Hanukkah show.
Will the original cast return?
Beth Leavel said she would be.
Beth Leavel said in a recent interview that she'd be participating if the Broadway return engagement materialized.
Sebastian Arcelus booked a television series, so he's someone who is definitely unavailable.
wdwfreak-Someone reported on the Into the Woods thread that someone who works at the Hirschfeld told them that Into the Woods was going in there. (Not that I claim expertise, but it wasn't Riedel that reported this-someone did give us hearsay from an employee.) If Into the Woods makes the transfer, I just hope it's not too big of a theater.
As for Elf, I have no desire to see it-I love the holiday season, but A Christmas Story interests me more. (And one holiday show is my limit.)

Can we say holiday show saturation?? I mean really does Broadway need 2 holiday shows?? And NYC as a whole will have a total of 5 holiday shows including the two on Broadway as well as The Grinch at MSG,Radio City and Nutcracker. This is total saturation of a market. I know I for one have absolutely no desire to see any of them. Bah Humbug!!!
Don't forget the Rockettes!

I mentioned Radio City. Also pretty interesting since the target non tourist Broadway audience happens to be Jewish people and Gays.
And I'm sure some sort of Christmas character or two will appear behind the dingy secondhand-costume-wearing grifters around Times Square. Perhaps Heat Miser or Olive the Other Reindeer? Or Mario wearing a Santa hat?
You know you're not required to see any of these shows right? There's plenty of new non-holiday theatre to take in. Get over it.
Well then we need a gay Hanukkah show.

Now, that's an idea Jordan.

An ITW transfer is hardly a done deal at this point.

I'd much prefer havin a ITW transfer as opposed to 2 holiday shows.

I love you.
Rumors of an INTO THE WOODS transfer have been wishful thinking all along. The Public has been trying to raise money for quite some time, but I have a feeling the reviews tonight are going to be decidedly mixed at best, which will probably kill any chance the show had at a future life.
Besides, as has been discussed, the cast has significant availability issues. As it is, Amy Adams alone is only available for a very small window of time in the spring, and there's already a possibility that window may not even be able to accomodate a transfer.

Actually, the upcoming Fall season appears to be rather thin as far as musicals go. I also believe that these holiday shows will take the family audience away from other family targeted Broadway shows like the Annie revival, Poppins, Newsies etc.

It's nice to see so many family shows on the Great White Way!
Hm. Wonder who they will get for Buddy? Probably going to try for a "name."
