Posted: 9/19/04 at 1:19pmI for one, don't think WICKED will last 10 years...maybe 5 at the most. I also think there are PLENTY of people who could replace Idina- many of whom are still "unknowns" just waiting for their big break! I for one, never saw the big deal about Idina...but that's just me. Oh- and for those of you who didnt watch MISS AMERICA last night, Idina's version of "Life of the Party" from WILD PARTY was used during the talent competition (for the 1st runner up's jazz performance).

Posted: 9/19/04 at 3:39pmI doubt that Shoshana will be offered the part. Katy Grenfell didn't replace Marissa Jaret Winokur. Schele Williams didn't replace Heather Headley. Megan Campbell didn't replace Sutton Foster. It doesn't always work out that way. I think it is possible for Shoshana to star in the tour.

Wow. I've written this about four times, but here it is again. Shoshana does not want the part and will turn it down if it is offered to her. She is busy working on her album.
Stephanie is likely, although she turned down the stand by role. If she gets it, she will be amazing, and well worth seeing.
There are no other names at this point likely for the role. Lisa has never been considered.

Posted: 9/19/04 at 4:33pmWICKED is a big blockbuster, it will last 3 years. My guess is it will last hopefully longer than 3. But I mean if CATS ran 18 years, WICKED can at least run 3.

Posted: 9/19/04 at 6:24pmThere was a big rumor floating around the Broadway Flea Market -- in various corners -- that Idina will be replaced by Kristin Chenoweth. You heard it here first.

Posted: 9/19/04 at 6:53pmRegarding the show's run, I doubt it will be a hit that runs for about 20 years like Les Mis and Cats. Most of the reason the box office was doing good was because of Idina and Kristen. I am not saying that the hype will die right after Idina leaves, but in a few years or so, no one is going to care to see it...Idina and Kristen have made a name for the show.

Millie,
I very respectfully disagree. IMO, most of the people that see the show have no idea who Idina or KC are. I have seen the show numerous times, and we always hear comments that make it obvious that people dont know who they are. We were at the show Friday night, and we heard at least 3 people at intermission remark "the green one has a great voice". People thought the tic sales would suffer when KC left. Didnt happen.

Testing:
I'm sure not everyone knew who Sutton Foster was either, but for some reason, the show closed a few months after she left (ticket sales were dropping even more after she left). However, since Wicked is a big tourist-y production, it won't close a few months after Idina leaves.
Some people might recognize KC from various TV spots. And, well, Idina did win the Tony. Of course, not every single person knows who Idina or KC is, but I think they are one of the reasons why Wicked was such a hit. Out of the thousands upon thousands of people who've seen the show, you think that just because you heard 3 people remark about "that green girl," almost no one knows about Idina? Indeed, they have made a name for the show...maybe not as much as Nathan and Matt for the Producers, but they are part of the reason why Wicked was and still is doing well.
But I respect your opinion also, and don't want to get into any arguements.

Millie,
Go back and read my post. I was not basing my opinion on those 3 people. That was just what I heard on Friday. I have seen the show around 15 times, and we ALWAYS hear comments like that, so I am assuming that they are pretty common. Again, respectfully disagree. No arguments here either. Just difference of opinion.
Another thing... I dont think that you can compare "Millie" to "Wicked". "Wicked" appeals to a much wider audience, and thats what I think will keep in going for a long time. That,
and the fact that people are familiar with the story. (Well, at least with the "Wizard of Oz") I really dont think that this is a star-driven production.

That's why I said that Wicked won't close a few months after Idina leaves, because it is a big tourist-y production, unlike Millie which wasn't that popular with the tourists after a while.
Eventually, in a few years or so, the hype will slow down. People are going to be less interested in seeing Wicked unless they put some super talented people in there. I also said that Idina and Kristen were only part (a large part) of the reason why Wicked was doing well. Again, I believe they have made a name for the show. Haven't there been remarks on this forum before about how people would seem a bit disappointed when they heard Eden would go on instead of Idina? Of course, Eden would do wonderfully, but if people were disappointed in the first place, they must've known who Idina was, at least. So, yeah, you're going to hear the "green girl" remarks, but there are people who know who Idina is.

I don't think "replace" is the proper word, how about "take over the role of"?
Kathy Brier replaced Marissa Jaret Whatserface, and she was a standby, if I remember correctly.
I would probably compare Wicked to Phantom, which has certainly thrived with strong leads ever since Michael Crawford.

Phantom of the Opera has made a name for itself.
It's Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Wicked will make a name for itself, if it hasn't already, for better or worse.
And will run as least half as many years as Phantom, for better or worse.
