FYI: Stephanie Block never turned down the stand-by role in WICKED. She WAS the stand-by for Idina out in San Fran during the out-of-town try-out. She left very early on, though (before it premiered at the Curran or after, not sure which) when she was offered the role of Liza Minelli in BFO. I've heard her say NUMEROUS times that she'd love to return to the role if the opportunity arose. Shoshana has only been in rehearsals for two weeks (although she sounds SO great) so I'd say it's a little early to say how she'll do on stage.
On another note, BKLYN opens on thursday and that is mucho exciting for Eden Espinosa. Kudos to the former Idina stand-by!
Yes. Stephanie did turn down the standby. After she finished BFO, that was an option that she turned down. She has not turned down taking over for Idina, but she did turn down the monotony of being a standby. =)

I saw Wicked in SF towards the end of the run, and she was still in the playbill. Her bio did mention BFO as a future engagement.
It does seem like all signs point to Steph Block... she does have Wicked connections (the show, not the insanely annoying Northest verb). And she did mention coming back to NYC at the start of the New Year, at about the same time that Playbill announed Idina's extended run FOR NO REASON WHAT-SO-EVER! Except maybe that Steph needs more rehersal time, or something like that. Hopefully we'll find out soon....
I, too, was hoping to play the green girl. Oh well. All I can say is that it better be around for... ever! Well, at least 20 years. I doubt it, but I hope so.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!"
Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Because it's a spectacle based on a familiar story, it will probably be around a while, but in a few years, if the attendance drops, they'll eventually have to move it to a smaller venue and scale it down. If Beauty and the Beast can run this long, then Wicked will probably run at least five years, but a ten-year run is ambitious thinking. Rent is struggling now at eight years with much cheaper running costs, more awards, and a reputation as a landmark in musical theatre history.

I heard the producers were trying to get Margaret Hamilton to reprise her role - but when they found out she was dead, they figured she probably couldn't hit the high notes.
Marc, I was saying her name before also, but the more that I think about it I think Idina Menzel (who was in RENT) would be a good choice.
