I know they shot it in Time Square. But hen I saw "Lestat" and the Producers billboard still up near the palace I kind of went "?"
I just wonder if that shot was a semi-consious decision made by the director, since he seemed to be so meticulous about all the other symbolism in the movie. And it was right after her first scene. :)
Yes..it is a case of coincidence, all those posters are just there, Disney has no tie in with Wicked or Rent...and as for the comment about Idina's hair and look....sorry dude, I like her too....but she is NOT a good looking woman.....I know, I know...fans and all...take a really good look, if she was a nobody...would you still think she's hot? ......and I'm not being mean...the way some people are about others,...she's just ....not attractive.
HeyMrMusic - you're right! I was looking for Lea Salonga in the movie. :)
"I love acting. It is so much more real than life." Oscar Wilde "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Aldous Huxley
I loved "ENCHANTED" as well. I read in one article that Idina was supposed to sing the "EVER AFTER" song that Carrie Underwoods sings over the closing credits but that they decided as things went along to just move a long the action and not stop for another song in the movie. However Idina also said that because she had just come off of her run in Wicked and Singing for the Rent movie that it was actually a nice change to just be able to act and not have to sing.
Yeah, I loved the movie, and thought moments were very smart.
Idina was fine, but she certainly didn't win (or lose) any fans with the role she was given. If one didn't know who she was (most of the world), no one would remember her in the movie. Again, not because of her performance, but because of her role.
That being said, for those of us who know Idina, it does seem a shame that she doesn't sing as it is a musical--and she is known for being primarily a singer (and a pretty great one in my opinion). Like Mandy Patikin not singing in Yentl (as an example), or similar.
I saw the movie last night on a date -- and if you're both ready for a good, intentionally cheesy, light-hearted evening, this is a GREAT movie!
I was surprised to find myself howling through most of the movie. Right from the get-go (the beginning of the film opening with a storybook) they got the classic Disney homage spot-on. Everytime Gisele called the animals I just about died laughing. And I have to admit, I am a sucker for CG animated chipmunks.
Patrick Dempsey made me swoon just a little bit. He was especially uber sexy in that blue bathrobe, though I wonder if that little fondle of chest hair might have been just a tad inappropriate for kids... I mean, I (!!) didn't mind.
And I agree with whoever said Idina will not win or lose fans with this. It had nothing to do with her performance. There was just not enough for her to do: was it, like, 4 scenes she had all together? Maybe with those deleted scenes of hers, we could have seen more. But her character was just paper-thin. For all the effort I knew Idina was doing, she seemd to be merely functioning as the girlfriend who everyone knows Dempsey will dump. And I do have to admit admit I missed her singing.
Susan Sarandon was all right. I thought her character was underwritten and the fact that she was the Evil Queen was serviceable enough. I guess if it were a farce then fine, but she could have been given much MORE to work with. Her "funny" lines were even a bit off-color and cliche in the showdown.
Timothy Spall as Nathaniel... He was fine, but what was it Bob Martin said in DROWSY about broad racial stereotypes being banished to Disney? I guess he was spot-on. They seemed to ridicule every European and Middle-East stereotype, all through poor Mr. Spall. I thought he was good as Nathaniel (and I loved his end story!) but his "characters" were a tad out of taste for me.
Pip. Loved him. Love love LOVE Pip in this movie. Him trying to tell Edward about Nathaniel poisoning Gisele at the restaurant was worth the price of admission :)
Yes, the lyrics and music were very cheesy but they seemed to be paying homage to the genre rather than taking themselves seriously. My date was howling at the bad rhymes... I mean, I hope that was the intent...
Overall, with all the things I nit-picked, I loved this movie. I almost want to see it again -- which I am incredibly surprised by! And for all the rushing there seemed to be in this movie, there was a good heart in it. Updated On: 11/28/07 at 09:43 AM

"They seemed to ridicule every European and Middle-East stereotype"
Don't forget about the leering, almost predatory gay character who opens the door and frightens the Prince (Marsden). Seemed straight (!) out of a vaguely offensive '80s comedy. The only real mis-step for me with this otherwise charming film.
Wouldn't be a huge deal if balanced in SOME way in SOME other movie, but I'd guess this embarrassing stereotype will be the only obviously gay character that a lot of the kid and "tween" audience will encounter. Updated On: 11/28/07 at 11:53 AM

I saw this film on Saturday, and though it was just....enchanting. It was a little ridiculous at the end, but that's the way of most disney endings.
Amy Adams totally carried this film on her petite shoulders. She was hysterical, yet very real. Totally deserves on Oscar nomination for this perfomance. Will probably win a golden globe.
The rest of the cast was just fine. James Marsden was great as well. Both he and Amy have just beautiful voices.
As for Indina, I'm glad she is moving up the entertainment latter. I wish she had a song though, she probably would have blown everyone else out of the water.
I saw them filming this movie back in May 2005 in central park. I saw Amy Adams and Paterick Dempsey. The scene where she is talking to the old lady on the bench. That was the scene that was being filmed. I was there. So I guess I'm part of the enchantment.
I loved this film, but not for Broadway. However, I do like to in my spare time design sets so right now my ideas are for Enchanted and Down With Love.

Favorite part has to be the bit of "The Happy Working Song" about 'so friends, even though you're vermin' I about died laughing so hard. And um, Idina is gorgeous but that hair style for the ball scene was the most hideous thing ever, poor girl.
