You really think Urinetown is a more well known, well liked and popular show than Into the Woods??"
I think Lizzie was saying the opposite. She didn’t say MORE well-liked, just well-liked. I think Lizzie’s point was that Urinetown isn’t as mainstream as something like ITW (and therefore a better fit for Encores), but that it’s still well-liked enough to draw a crowd of New York theatre-goers.
Some of your suggestions are giving me absolute life. Audra? ✔. Denee? ✔ Carmen? ✔ Gyllenhall? ✔
I will take off work, I will cancel rehearsal, i will sleep with whoever necessary.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Into The Woods is the perfect choice for Encores, specifically for the fact that they are redefining themselves and their mission under DeBessonet's artistic direction. They need to do away with only doing forgotten early periods because 1) They don't make money 2) They've essentially run out of viable shows. Something like Into The Woods is the perfect transition into a new vision for the company, celebrating "iconic" American musicals. I think the new approach will allow them to continue presenting historic pieces from the canon while also filling the house and making money. They've needed something like this for a long time.

Encores will 100% not have a normal season in 2021 and will present shows whenever they can to make as much money as they can.
Could be. I was just going by the normal schedule and was skipping 2021. The gala presentation is in the fall but I do not think the theatre will be open yet. I have never thought encores productions made that much money unless they were sold out or extended. But I am not in the know....

I LOVE that everyone is suggesting Audra as the witch, which means I'm not alone in this dream-cast. Would also love to see Brandon Uranowitz as the Baker. This is an odd choice as I don't know if she's ever done live theatre, but I've been thinking a lot about Anne Hathaway as the Baker's Wife. I don't know, I think she'd be terrific. Otherwise, I've seen some great castings. Denee Benton and Hailey Kilgore would be wonderful Cinderellas! I'd also love to throw in Ashley Park. And can I nominate Aaron Lazar for Cinderella's Prince? I love this show so much so all my ideas are just going nuts.

I would sayInto The Woodsfits both those criteria, to an extent. We're 6 years removed from the movie and 5 from the most recent off-Broadway revival.
Maybe this will be how Chad Kimball gets his groove back. Milky White's his best role to date, given that he's in a full body costume and doesn't say anything."

Anne Hathaway has done live theatre several times, including receiving a love letter in the Times for starring in Carnival, opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell, at Encores in 2002.
