I think the EGOT, generally, means a lot less than it used to.

There are still only 12 people ever to have received all 4 awards competitively (& Audrey Hepburn got both the Grammy and Emmy posthumously). Only 6 of those people are alive today, and three of them are over 79.
Miranda’s inevitable PEGOT will be impressive. Even Sondheim never got the Emmy.

Sufjan's lyric is poetry, his music is wonder and heartbreak. I seriously hope he wins.
I'd also give a shoutout to the Lopezes' versatile song that is the emotional crux of Coco.
Someone needs to give Audra a juicy Hollywood featured role or make Cher a writer/producer of her biomusical. They're the EGOT we need. (I still dream that we'll see Sondheim win PEGOT, but Lin-Manuel will beat him to that.)

I liked Christmas Story yes but if the nomination does happen that would be wonderful. The music overall was tolerable

I enjoyed the song, but that was submitted instead of “Look for the Light”?

It was my favorite of the season’s songs, but beyond that I think it’s a smart submission. It’ll likely stick out to the average voter more than the other songs given how many times they repeated it. And unlike the Oscars and their love of awards bait ballads, this category is fairly kind to silly songs like Which of the Pickwick Did It.

Recent winners include Schmigadoon’s “Corn Puddin” and WandaVision’s “Agatha All Along” so it’s not totally far fetched. However I do think it’s a much weaker song than either of those.

I know I'm not much of a "Spirited" admirer, but I will say that "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" is Pasek and Paul's best song they've written since "Good Afternoon." The lyricism is brilliant.

Did they have to pick just one? Unlike the Oscars, the Emmys do seem to like fun songs. But, I'd still be inclined to think Look For the Light was this show's best song.

This reminds me of how "We Don’t Talk About Bruno" didn't win an Oscar for Encanto, for the dumbest reason possible. Disney didn't even submit it for consideration, pushing “Dos Oruguitas” instead.
Look for the Light has like 4X as many monthly listens as Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It on Spotify. It's Murder's most popular song. Don't overthink it and just submit your most popular song.

For Encanto, they had no way of knowing that Bruno would catch on when they chose Dos Oruguitas. Disney probably had to submit their Oscar song choice before the film was even released and it's obvious they felt that would be the breakout song. Little did they know what TikTok would reap!
The Emmy for best song has always been a weird category that doesn't have any straightforward path to winning. From what I've read, they used to require people to actually view songs in multiple committees and rank them. Not sure that the number of streams is necessarily that helpful of a metric.
