First Listen: Select songs from Hadestown cast album; to be released “in batches”?

Don't think it is being dramatic. A few tracks at a time over the course of weeks is just stupid. I'll wait.

I'm not sure what they think they will achieve by doing this, but I'm not buying the quote from Anais Mitchell on why.
"

so, you'd rather they rush mixing it and have it sound less than stellar?

The recording quality is superb.

If you’re not buying the Anais quote, than wouldn’t you assume something worse happened / something internally that could not be helped? Obviously a lot of the recording (if not all) is done, but a factor has stopped them releasing it whole. Sounds to me like they’re doing the best they can with whatever ****ty situation they’ve found themselves in. It was not a bait and switch. They didn’t do this to specifically ruin your week, theatredude2.

I don't think so. Artists have tried to wait until they are done and satisfied with something before releasing it for a long time now.

I can wait until the whole thing is done. My thought is finish the whole thing and release it. I have no problem waiting for them to be satisfied with the recording.

haterobics, a bit confused by your comment. Satisfied in chunks or a complete recording? If a complete recording then just release the whole thing. With cast recordings they usually do it in a few days. So I suspect it has all been recorded and can patiently wait for them to be satisfied with it. JMO

Anais has been very open that when they went to edit and mix the performances, they realized they needed more time to finish it at a level where it was exactly what they wanted. So, the complete thing isn't ready. This isn't a strategy. They probably thought releasing something would be better than holding the whole thing back, but nevertheless, the Internet persisted.

Wait For Me is up as well, at least it was when I checked around midnight. It was harder to find, for some reason, but it is there.

It's on Apple Music, and the four songs are available to play.  If it's not showing up when you search Apple Music, you can search for it on iTunes and click on the "Listen on Apple Music" button that shows up at the top.

Just FYI, you can preorder the album on Amazon Music and it lets you have the released songs right away, then will charge you later for the others as they're released.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

Seems as though there was a cast album listening party last night if you look at some of their Instagrams. The album, I think, is done??

Another reason for this trend in releasing is press.

Remember when Lena Hall was releasing those EPs inspired by various artists? Well, she got a little write-up in theatre publications every time she released one. You release an album, you get one press push and that's it.

Certainly not the only reason, but I promise it wasn't intended as at least an added bonus.

Or it was scheduled back when they thought they were going to hit their planned street date? Plus, there is something in a state ready to listen to... one imagines that was originally a release party.

I'm sure haterobics is right.  Of course they wanted the album out on June 7, but clearly things didn't work out that way. If Hadestown indeed wins the Best Musical Tony on Sunday, they would want the album available just as the show is getting all that award-winner exposure.  I suppose they figured some streaming service presence is better than none at all.  It's not ideal, but it seems understandable.

That said, the Spotify situation is a bit frustrating.  When I searched "Hadestown,' the only Broadway track that came up was "Way Down Hadestown."  "Our Lady" is under Amber Gray, and "Wait for Me" comes up under Andre de Shields.  It doesn't link them into the same album--indeed, the "Wait for Me" intro doesn't even come up as part of the same album as the song itself.  I'm sure this will all be fixed once the full album comes out, but in the meantime, it's a little laborious.  Not a deal-breaker, but a bit clunky.  THAT said, the recording sounds great!

Amen, the way Spotify has organized this is very very stupid! I've only been able to find a couple of the songs. Thanks for this little helper.

Man, what a mess! I guess I'm old fashion, but I just want the entire album and don't really care about releasing them according to characters and their journeys. I guess I will wait for the CD where I can hear it all!

Hey Little Songbird still sounds fantastic. Patrick Page really upped the creep factor for the album

Yeah, this does have a built-in solution for those who want it all at once.
