I came in with the expectation that this was a first preview (world premiere) so there will be cuts/changes made and it won’t be perfect. I do think they have something to work with so they’ll have 3-4 weeks to improve this show.
I did sit in front orchestra right and enjoyed the experience! The only thing I wished I had known beforehand was that the bar was closed.

I don’t know where I saw it but I had read something that masks would be required at ALL times at this show which made me assume there would be no bar service. That’s different than the “masks on unless you’re eating or drinking” (which still strikes me as ridiculous) so I wasn’t surprised to see it closed.

This is not me asking if anyone got an audio of last night. 🙃
Moved at the end of October and needed to cancel my first preview ticket after already having a ticket for the first preview last March. Fun times.

Was also there last night, and what a thrilling evening it was ! I agree with what a lot of other posters have said - seeing a fully original musical unfold felt like we were discovering all of these things for the first time with the actors. The score/ orchestration is so flowing and beautiful, and the choreo/ transitions and the way that they use rhythm is so contemplative and methodical. And that set… quite impressive - probably the best and most effective use of projections that I’ve ever seen on a broadway stage and such a good blend of practical sets/ effects and projections. Agreed that act two specifically needs some cuts/ tightening, but that’s what previews are for. For some reason the song “the 23rd ingredient” rang a little false/preachy to me. But wow, really can’t wait to see this after it opens!

For those who have seen it: Of the 3 main actors, who is likely to go leading vs. supporting for the awards?
I'm not seeing this until right before opening (or right after, I can't remember) - this was by design. I do enjoy being among the first audiences to see a buzzy new work, and to see it in its rawest form. But since I rarely get around to seeing shows more than once, I sometimes end up missing out on the best version of the show. So for this one, I decided to wait until it was frozen.

Of the 3 “main”, I’d say they’re all Leading. None would be considered Supporting. Sella would be considered Sup., but that’s only because of the ridiculous way they’re billing him.

Ah ok. I wonder if this is the only Broadway theater that has its bar closed.
I know at Wicked (Gershwin) they allow you to drink/eat in the lobby but not at your seat.
At other Broadway shows I've been to, drinking/eating at the seat is allowed.

I agree. From the marketing done back in early 2020, I thought there were only 3 leads but from watching this show, I'd consider Sella to be a lead as well.

How are the Michael Starobin orchestrations? IBDB indicates there is a 13-piece orchestra.
Very excited to see this.

IIRC there were no concession sales at either Roundabout show (Caroline, or Change and Trouble in Mind).

Thx kwoc91! I haven't been to those theaters yet. It looks like the non-profit ones are the ones without a bar. I've been to theaters run/owned by Jujamcyn/Shubert/Nederlander and they all had concessions.

I thought they were quite lush and suited the piece really well. But also, I'm usually just happy with any orchestration that includes a French horn.

Did anyone get TDF tickets? Where were the seats?

Obviously the Tonys are eons away, but do you think this has a chance of beating Six for Best Score?

Aside from Sella, do the other 6 tracks feel more like supporting roles, or more like featured ensemble tracks? Do they get significantly spotlight moments, or are they mostly just there to support the main 4 characters' journey?

Do you mean not at this particular time? Because the Sondheim absolutely does normally have concessions.

I don't know if normally it has concessions, it was my first time in the theater, but we were told immediately upon entry that there are no concessions in the theater due to Covid concerns.

For a show like Doubtfire that will surely have a lot of unvaccinated kids, I think that’s a smart idea - limiting the time they’d have their masks off eating and drinking.

''Of the 3 main actors, who is likely to go leading [at the Tonys]?''
The Tony race for Best Actor in a Musical already looks like one of the most competitive in years, with Billy Crystal (''Mr. Saturday Night'' ), Hugh Jackman (''The Music Man'' ) and Rob McClure (''Mrs. Doubtfire'' ). That leaves two other slots that could go to Harry Hadden-Paton and Tony Yazbeck (''Flying Over Sunset'' ), Or maybe Myles Frost (''MJ the Musical'' ) could get in if he gets raves.

Just stopped by Lincoln Center and got a fantastic seat for tonight with the promo code in this thread based on these great first night reviews. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a world premiere musical this early in previews, and it’ll be my first time back at Lincoln Center. The Beaumont is my favorite theater, so I’m really excited.

Don't know how to use the FSTM212 code on Telecharge. Is there somewhere to put the code in checkout? Appreciate any help anyone has!
