Marc's song "Blame Canada" is one of the contenders for the AFI's top 100 movie songs! The results will be aired Tuesday on CBS. Let's all pray that the judges are able to acknowledge the truly great contributions of the comic songwriters and their lasting impact on our society.

They did a pretty good job picking the 400 contenders.

What does everyone think #1 will be? I'm sure it will be OVER THE RAINBOW.

I hope "If I Were a Rich Man" is in the top twenty.

(Man....R & H got a lot of nods)

It's a much better list than I thought it would be (Glad "Ac-Cen-Tu-Ate The Positive" is there) though there are a few omissions (and some REAL oddball choices..."Cuban Pete"??!)

I'm very surprised "At Last" (from ORCHESTRA WIVES 1941) is not there, let alone "I'm Old Fashioned" (YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER), "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" (PERILS OF PAULINE) or "I'm In The Mood For Love" or "I Feel a Song Comin' On" (both from EVERY NIGHT AT EIGHT). Maybe they just hate song titlesthat start with an "I".

Might we send Right Said Rick to AFI's head office, I'm sure HE could motivate them to "vote with their hearts..." that is if they don't want them removed with RSR's dirty, vile fingers!

All The Best, to Mr. Marc (AMAZING) Shaiman!

"I'm A Believer" from SHREK? Give me a break!

Where's "How Lukcy Can You Get" from FUNNY LADY?

"Second Star To The Right" from PETER PAN?

"Tequilla" from PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE and "Big Bottom" from SPINAL TAP are inspired choices as well. I would love to have seen "Kiss at the End of a Rainbow" from A MIGHTY WIND on the list. It was an amazing musical moment that chokes me up everytime I watch that scene or hear the song.

"Big Bottom" is, indeed, a brilliant choice, Suleen. How could they leave that behind?

Call me cheap and obvious, but I do love "Sex Farm" as well.

And where is "Funny Little Butterflies" from BILLIE?!?!
Or the title song from THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT???
Or "I'll Plant My Own Tree" from VALLEY OF THE DOLLS??!!!
Or "I've Written a Letter to Daddy" from WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?

"Ghostbusters" shouldn't be on the list neither.

What about "Mame" from MAME?

LOL, Eddie...

I can just imagine the look on the faces of the folks in the AFI office if RightSaidRick appeared in their doorway clutching a picture of Marc and a Southpark poster...

It would be "motivation" enough for me!

Blame Canada is a hoot...but I've wondered if Canadian Immigration Officials gave Marc a tough time when he flew into Toronto.("Blame Canada, huh, pretty boy? Let's see you put 'Body Cavity Search' to music!")

Oh, Master, of course BILLIE should have made the cut, but I believe "Lonely Little In Between" sums up the theme of that film better than "Funny Little Butterfiles", don't you? The melody is the same, but "Butterflies"'s lyric just does not pack the emotional whallop that "In Between" does.

No "Dream WArriors" from "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3?" Does Dokken warrant no love from AFI?

Bah, I say.

Yeah, I was rather disappointed with some of the song choices. There were many songs I would have switched for better, lesser-known songs.

But there were also many that I was happy to see there, "Blame Canada" being one of them. Much luck, Mr. Shaiman!!

True, as usual Suleen. "Lonely Little In Between" does pack a powerful punch.
Yet I do love the slightly druggy aura of pubescence that "Funny Little Butterflies" infers.

A reserved parking space?
