The mother is just standing there crying over her pot of spaghetti? Does she make an attempt to hide?
She was hiding. The pot was left unattended while she sat huddled in another part of the kitchen.
And I knew who did it about 5 seconds into the shooting because everyone was being shown but Sue and Becky. Didn't anyone have any concern for Becky's safety?
After the scene between Becky and Brittany I knew that things didn't look good for Becky. She was either going to be a victim of the shooter or the shooter. You don't just throw scenes like that into a show for no reason. That was clearly foreshadowing.
And why was Tina not in class? What did she do to offend Ryan Murphy that she wasn't in the scene
Having a member of the group be stuck outside adds "drama". They're worried about her - she's fighting to get back into the building. Could they just have stayed with Brittany being stuck in the bathroom? Sure, but having someone outside hysterical is "better tv" (or whatever).
We are getting to the "reveal" that the person who can't reveal herself to Ryder is Unique, right? I can only imagine how that will play out.
They made a point to say what Unique's ring is. Red herring or foreshadowing?
Sue I mentioned that--Earshot. But I appreciate the info.
oops duh, so you did Eric!
Buffy has to be one of the greatest shows ever! those scenes in the belltower were amazing
I hate to agree with you on this board--but yeah. It got everything right I think about why kids do this (though I do think gun control issues would make this less likely.) Glee didn't.
All other issues aside, wasn't the episode supposed to be about if Rachel got into FUNNY GIRL?
welcome to the dark side eric... just kidding...
buffy the vampire slayer, bringing people of all kinds together, even the dead and undead :)
youre right, it was such a smart clever show. isnt there talk of a movie? maybe with the veronica mars movie in the works there will is hope!
Next week is 'Sweet Dreams', which will feature Rachel's Fanny audition. The promo was a combo piece for 'Shooting Star' and 'Sweet Dreams'.
I think for what it's worth - Glee did a good job with the material at hand. Was it perfect? No, but this is a show that isn't exactly built on perfectly crafted story telling either. That being said, I thought the scenes in which the incident was taking place were pretty damn heart-wrenching and well done, especially on the end of Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet, who aren't exactly model thespians, but damn did they deliver. One thing I've been hearing people say is that they didn't feel the built up to it happening - and I pose this question to you - in most of the cases involving high school shootings, was there ever massive built up to it? Most of these events happen on a typical day, and the events can turn from the typical to terrifying in mere moments, and Glee did a very good job of showing that. Yes, Degrassi did it better, but as I said - Glee did it's best with the material at hand.
I also don't think killing anyone or injuring anyone would have added to any sort of realism, because Glee walks such a fine tight rope between reality and escapism that harming someone in a shooting would break the tight rope and hang a cloud over the show for awhile.
Jane Lynch was fantastic, but when isn't she? Maybe it's me, but I feel like Lauren Potter (Becky) did such a great job with making Becky seem like just another scared girl with mixed feelings, that I didn't really feel like they were trying to paint some sort of portrait of someone with Down's being unstable. Again, maybe it's me, but that's how I saw it.

Oh, for me our cable kept freezing up during that scene and I couldn't tell whether she was hiding or didn't know that an emergency was taking place.

Yeah, but I wasn't feeling it. They showed about 2 seconds of Tina being worried. And nobody inside gave a rip about Tina. Nobody used a cellphone to film a message to Tina.
To be honest, I really don't care enough about Tina, plus Jenna isn't exactly that wonderful of an actress to begin with. Her little moments, I could have done without, but I get why they included them.

the writers turned Tina into one of the most annoying characters ever on this show... almost nothing about her this season has been likeable... she's like Andrea from the Walking Dead!

How silly. I bet the teens and very young adults have not even seen classic TV couples that are still being remembered decades later. There have also been excellent TV couples from the 80's and 90's. Maybe they can say this is their favorite couple of the 21st century or from a program that is still on the air, but of all-time, I don't think so.

It's so easy to bash Glee especially the past couple of seasons but come on, I thought they did a very good job with this episode, it was **** really well and handled in the perfect way for Glee. For the person who said they might have cared more if you cared about the characters.....how daft, do you know all the people who are **** in this shootings to care about them?
Also anybody who is shouting that it was to soon after the recent shooting is missing the point, it's good to address these things when they are fresh.
Seriously? We're comparing fictional characters to real life people now? No, I do not have to feel sympathy towards characters who are not real. Though, I will admit when I saw the episode of Grey's Anatomy with the shooter in the hospital, I did feel bad for the 1 character who I hated. However, the one that immediately got shot in the head, I didn't feel much remorse except that it was shocking. Was I cheering for anyone to die? No. But, it is easier when a character on a show dies if you don't have much investment in them.
Well I just watched the episode and saw a group of young people in jeopardy and found it intense and moving
That's so weird because I just watch the episode and found it pandering and unconvincing. Glee needs to decide what kind of show it is before it starts doing hot button topics like this.

Amen to this. I can't stand her.

It's kind of hard to think of people as fictional, when the situation they're in is - a. very real, and b. very intense. I emphasized with the entire cast of characters last night, because for me - it felt like you were in that room (or the bathroom stall, in Brittany's case) with them, and you could almost feel the fear and anguish. This again, is just how I felt, but I agree with songanddanceman - I was moved and it felt intense.
Just Britney alone in the stalls had my heart in my stomach
songanddanceman - I normally cannot stand Heather Morris, and don't think she's all that talented, but damn did she knock that scene out of the park. I was hysterical the entire time, and it just killed me.
I asked around today at my HS to see actual kids' reactions...I couldn't find anyone that even watched it.
Glee is doing ACL!!! Just the thought of Dame Lea's crescendo in At the Ballet is giving me chills.
First look at glee's a chorus line tribute
Every time you say "Dame Lea" someone should come through and c^nt punt you.
