Any predictions on what albums are going to be nominated and which, of those, might win?
MY NOMINEES
Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
Kinky Boots
Matilda The Musical
Pippin
Who I Want To Win
Matilda The Musical
Who Should Win
Matilda The Musical, or
Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
Who Will Probably Win
Kinky Boots
I'd honestly love it if Matilda, Cinderella, or Pippin won... their albums are wonderfully produced and really capture the spirit of the show and their productions.

MY NOMINEES
Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
Kinky Boots
Matilda The Musical
Pippin
Who I Want To Win
Pippin, however, I love all four and listen to them daily, so no matter what I'll be happy.
Who Should Win
Pippin or
Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
Who Will Probably Win
Kinky Boots
I have to root for Pippin, though, because I'm featured on it and I want to be able to say I am on an Grammy Award winning album.

If CINDERELLA doesn't win it will be a travesty in my book. One of the most gorgeous theater albums in some time.
That being said, KINKY BOOTS will almost certainly win.

If KINKY BOOTS wins - that category and the Grammys are officially a joke. That has to be one of the biggest letdowns and worst produced musical theatre albums of the last few seasons. I say this as a big fan of the show, but the recording is a disappointment.
My vote goes to MATILDA for the exceptional job they did of capturing the energy and spirit of that shows as well as the expense they went to of getting an almost complete recording of the score that sounds better than ever.
I want Kinky Boots to win. I knew KB was going to win the Tony, and now I'm 100% positive that it'll win this. I can hear that album all day. There isn't not one song that you'd skip.
I love my theatre community but if I could change one thing it'll be to keep your negatively & comparing to yourself.. it's so irritating to read.
The nominees have been announced! And they are...
MATILDA
MOTOWN
KINKY BOOTS
Why only three nominees?

'Cinderella' was not nominated! What a travesty! The album has such beautiful music!
Motown was the surprise nomination, IMO... it sounds good, but not as good as Cinderella's or Pippin's. But really hope Matilda wins this one.
I know kinky boots will win but why only three nominations? Cinderella or Pippin deserved that fourth spot

Cinderella IS nominated!
Is it though? Is it?

CINDERELLA is not nominated, and it is an even bigger travesty than if it had merely lost! Not even a nomination? And the wonderful PIPPIN album was also snubbed! The main criteria was clearly name recognition.
I also hope MATILDA wins, though I still think KINKY BOOTS will, despite its much discussed pitfalls.
When the Grammy rules were revised (was it just last year?), they decided that if a category has a small number of eligible entries, there shouldn't be five nominees. There should only be four or three or two, proportion to the number of total eligible recordings. I fear that the musical theater category may fall victim to this rule quite frequently.
Would recordings like 35MM & The Joe Iconis Rock and Jamboree fall into this category? Not sure of their release dates but I've been listening to them more than any Broadway Cast album. There were some great off-Broadway recordings as well; Dogfight, Giant, Natasha Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.

It that's true, it reminds me of the terrible rule at the Olympics where only the two best from each country can be in the finals..so you had 3rd place amazing American athletes who were not allowed to compete, while totally mediocre people from other places were finalists.
I am not upset with the nominees but come on, not Cinderella too? I could listen to ALL these over and over.

I'm aghast that Pippin didn't get a nom. Granted, I loved the show, but I really love the recording, I was really impressed with it. I liked KB, but I've never been able to listen to the cd all the way through. It just falls flat to me.
Congrats to the nominees. While we're disappointed that Shout!'s recording of Annie was not nominated, we are tremendously proud of Thomas Z. Shepard's work on it and look forward to releasing our 'storybook' version of the album soon.
The Recording Academy's PRESENT rules require 40 entries to nominate 5 albums instead of 3. My understanding of the criteria is that the recording must be a record of a Broadway Musical. Albums such as compilations, solo albums or those recorded at clubs or with only a shows' soloists don't qualify as a Musical Theatre Album according to these rules.
I do know that the Recording Academy is always reviewing these criteria and it is hoped by all of us I'm sure that the rules might allow 5 nominees with less than 40 entries. Producing any record, much less a Cast Album, is a tremendous undertaking, both financially and creatively, so the recognition with an award nomination or win is always gratifying. But certainly not required for creative or financial success.
Just remember a little show called Wicked.
I'm very shocked that Cinderella and Pippin were snubbed for Motown with music that was already made.
Anyway, Matilda BETTER win! Tim Minchin seriously deserves it more than Cyndi Lauper. Matilda’s music seriously needs recognition. If Kinky Boots gets ANOTHER major award just because of Cyndi Lauper, idk what I'll do.

O.o
PIPPIN's CD sounds so good
I'm shocked it was not nominated
but then the other nominees in almost al the other categories are just as off the mark too....

Sorry that Cinderella was not nominated, though the new book by Douglas Carter Beane is a travesty. But then, these awards are 90% of the time travesties themselves!
In any event, of the three nominated, I hope the award goes to Kinky Boots.

The Grammys are useless when it comes to cast recordings. It's a filler award, and ultimately is something that gets caught up in everyone Christmas treeing their ballots after selecting the major awards.
Yeah, the best bet with Grammy predictions is to guess whatever the voters are most familiar with, so it'll probably be Motown, with Kinky as the spoiler if they see Cyndi Lauper's name on the ballot. Not how I'd vote, but still.
^^And it's mainly the winner of Best Score at the Tony who wins here

disneybroadwayfan, is it really so shocking that Motown was nominated with "already made" music? Of the five cast albums discussed in this thread, only the music of Kinky Boots has not been recorded previously.
