whoever is outside of the UK and uses Chrome can install the plugin "Hola" that can change your VPN to anywhere. After installing, just change your location to UK. I'm watching now, so far it's amazing1!!!!
The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. It was wonderful to see this today! Thanks for posting the links.
Hola will work as an extension for Chrome or you can download it separately - it works every time. I use it for ITV to watch Coronation Street - you have to disable your ad blocker on ITV, though, but the cute commercials are worth watching!
Great show. They did a fine job filming it, and the Hola.org extension worked well except toward thd end when it was buffering a lot. I uninstalled it afterwards.
Just finished it. For the most part I really loved it. I loved the set, costumes and staging a lot. While I really liked Imelda, I do think her performance probably works better live - it's such a HUGE theatrical interpretation it came across a bit over-the-top on my little computer screen, in my opinion. Was Gypsy's strip rushed/abbreviated or is it always that short? Something about it felt shorter and less impactful than normal to me, and it's such a pivotal scene/montage. Maybe I was just underwhelmed with Laura Pulver...
I've also realized now having seen several top-notch productions of Gypsy (like many on here) that I've become super critical of any new production I see, just an observation.
It definitely had something missing compared to seeing it live. The atmosphere in the theatre was just incredible. Also, I don't think that some of the jokes landed as well on screen as they did in the theatre.
The Strip was cut down for this production. I really wish that it hadn't been as I absolutely love Lara's interpretation of Louise. I loved the gradual transformation during The Strip, each successive section being slightly less awkward than the one before it.
But, ugh, I had to turn it off before the five minute mark. A real disservice is done to live theatre when it's filmed. I found that opening scene excruciating.
I'm watching it now. But, the strobe effect switch from young to older didn't come off as well as it does in the theatre. Mild disappointment as that is one of my most favorite "changes" I've seen in the theatre.
In true Festivus spirit, here is my airing of grievances:
* What a small orchestra. I mean, I understand budgetary concerns, but you don't highlight what we already hear from the high-quality sound by cutting to a keyboardist playing the synthesizer patch substituting for an instrument.
* While we're talking about the music, the "Overture" is drastically cut. Really? You couldn't fit in a few more backstage activities to fill time?? One of the most famous overtures of all time, and it's cut to... why, it's gotta be less than a minute! Really???
* Wow, they're taking this thing at the pace of a bat out of hell. Every book scene is rushed and frenetic... I mean, should we really be at "I had a dream..." just over 10-and-a-half minutes in? Slow down, wouldja please?? Let a moment land! It's hard to judge how anyone is doing when they're racing through the material like they've gotta be done in time for tea. I sure hope they don't perform it like that every night. The pace is doing no one favors, least of all Imelda Staunton, who makes me nostalgic for Bette Midler's performance.
Mr. Musical said: "it seems like it isn't complete. It's 20 minutes shorter than the actual broadcast on BBC's website. Also, Everything's Coming Up Roses is missing
Youre right mr musical.
the version on bbc4 is 2hours 16 minutes

I have seen this posted to several torrents sites if someone wants to download from there, or again they can watch the full show on bbc4 if they use hola or some other service to make it look like they are browsing from the UK!
