Dollypop - I think I very well may just add that quote to my profile.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Well, it's true, many other worthy projects can actually help the majority of Americans without taking their lives. That aside though, we still have to fill up air space on television. If they expect me to tune in, please record works I would give up an afternoon to want to watch.
I'd give at least .88 cents to see the new version of Gypsy on television. I've spent a lot more lately, just on Theatre tickets. Hardly a sacrifice.
"I'm pretty sure this current production is going to the West End once it finishes on Broadway. I would be overjoyed if they decided to record it for Great Performances or even straight to DVD. If they did decide to record it they would probably wait to release it once Patti finished her run as Mama Rose here on Broadway, West End, The Orpheum Circuit, wherever the show takes her, even if it takes 5 years."
This is my first time posting, but I have been follwing the discussion on this thread, and I decided to email Great Performances. The viewer relations guy emailed me back with this reply.
"Thank you for writing to GREAT PERFORMANCES regarding your interest in seeing GYPSY. You are not the first person to ask us to broadcast this performance, and I have forwarded your request to the appropriate staff for review."
**I asked how they choose what is to be filmed for GP, and in addition to some other stuff about how they select a performance, he included in his reply:**
"We have recorded several Stephen Sondheim shows, and therefore might have the opportunity to film this production of GYPSY."
I followed the link and wrote to Great Performances. Everyone join in! By the way, I wrote to Ms. Lupone back in May and suggested that Gypsy be taped and she responded, saying that she would love to do it, but it was not up to her.
Round of applause for NGBF!! Now for our part, we need petitions, emails, & banners. We can't stop until this is agreed upon by PBS!!
This is the perfect time too. We know it won't be shown until after the production closes. It would be a great way to celebrate Gypsy's 50th Birthday!!

Thank you for the great performances contact info NGBF! I have contacted them and asked them to record the 2008 Gypsy revival. I have also sent the info to all my people so they can contact them as well. Everyone do the same! We will make this happen!
I'm really hoping this production of "Gypsy" is preserved through Great Performances, as I doubt I'll be able to travel to NYC in time to witness the fantastic performances of Patti LuPone, Laura Benanti, & Boyd Gaines.
I, too, requested they preserve it on their Great Performances program.
People often do not think that these feedback forms do anything because all they get in return is an automated response -- but I know first-hand that each and every message received on web forms by companies are read and stored (NOT deleted).

I am trying to think if one has enough of the musicals and shows and stuff do do a cable channel. Now that would be cool.
I know Bravo was supposed to be that way when it first started (and A&E) but both have gotten away from that.... Maybe we could start a Footlights Cable Channel or something....
There is plenty of things. We could have musicals and stage productions...Plays on Great Performances.... Inside the Actor's studio... there are always great theater performances on the BBC to put on this channel.. Anyone have a couple mil? It would be a cool idea.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
Your comments suggesting that GREAT PERFORMANCES tape the current Broadway production of 'Gypsy' are deeply appreciated and will be shared with the appropriate staff. A number of viewers have emailed/called asking that we consider broadcasting this 2008 Tony Award winning revival of the Jule Styne/Stephen Sondheim musical.
There are currently no plans to tape 'Gypsy'. However, PBS and GREAT PERFORMANCES have had a long and successful history of broadcasting the work of Stephen Sondheim. Ultimately, the decision rests with the producers of the revival and Arthur Laurents, the show's book writer and this production's director. If they were to come to GREAT PERFORMANCES with the idea of our taping the musical we would definitely consider it.

I also sent in some comments. Hopefully, this happens. Considering what an excellent job they did with COMPANY, I hope they could do a similar job with this brilliant production.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
