Great news for several reasons:
1) Solid 'legs' will keep it in theaters longer, and on more screens.
2) Word-of-mouth seems to be helping.
3) General public is showing some taste for a change.
4) Poor Marc needs the money.

Is that just for today, or what?
In any case, that's certainly great news!
Those are Tuesday's numbers. Hairspray has been neck-and-neck with both Harry Potter and C&L on weekdays, but this has been the first day that Hairspray has topped them both!
mateo? You there?

A big "Ouch" for No Reservations. That movie looks good.
Damn those Simpsons "Spider Pig" commercials that play every commercial break!
For God's sake, I made an all-encompasing thread about the box office just so the board wouldn't be cluttered with a new thread any time something minor happens to this movie...
I post in it..

No Reservations looks good? It looks so commercail, so safe, and so obvious.
I remember hearing about this movie last year. The fact that they put it on hold just shows that the movie isn't any good.

Who cares! It's Hairspray! It deserves a new thread!

The Hairspray Soundtrack is also #2 on the Billboard Top 200.
I was so sad with the simpsons movie. It was a frikin hour and half. I've sneezed for longer than that!! Hairspray should be number 1
Good news! A really authentic musical is connecting with audiences, whether you like the movie or not, that's pretty damn exciting!
I don't feel too bad for No Reservations. I'm sure no-one expected it to premiere in the top spot. #5 isn't so bad, or maybe I'm just naive....
"No Reservations" looks like the worst cheesiest and unnecessary movie out there. Catherine is wasting her talent on that, and that girl from Little Miss Sunshine, no thanks!
Scarywarhol, I also posted in your thread, take a chill pill!
=)
Bump!
The bigger concern I have is that while HP had a stellar Opening Weekend, since then it has not been at the number 1 spot as far as I know.
I hope to go back and see Hairspray again soon. Such an enjoyable evening.
Estimates for Wednesday have Hairspray holding on to the #2 spot, behind The Simspons and ahead of C&L and HP.
I am probably going back to see it next weekend with a friend and after that with my mom and sister. So . . . it will still get my money for the weeks to come.
the bigger story is it has a higher per screen average....it's not in as many theaters as the other ones yet it is making more money, meaning those screenings are fuller, so that's awesome!
It deserves every success.
As for the anal thread police, go alphetize your bookshelf or something.
Spider, you haven't seen it yet?
#2 for Wednesday
2,425,000
Vs. Chuck and Larry's 2,240,640
and in 380 less theatres.
