@Hogan, doesn't everyone and their mother want Michael Arden to win for SA? I feel like that's been the common thought on this board since SA was announced.
Matt, first of all, no. I think there is a group on here who do and others who don't. I have not seen it but I do not see the same level of craft. Second, and even more importantly (since I could be wrong about the first), SA will be long gone by the Tonys, and closed shows do not often win, especially not for something like direction.
I am OBSESSED with Eliza's song Burn. Phillipa Soo's voice is amazing in this song. A tony nom for sure! Link - https://youtu.be/YYtqr6c1u5c

^Her voice is gorgeous. She deserves Tony recognition, for sure. I hope opening early in the season doesn't limit the Tony success this show deserves.

That's a great NY article about the women. It would have been so easy in a show about the founding fathers to make women who were just asides to support the main story. I'm so impressed at how Miranda made Angelica and Eliza such strong characters but didn't betray the realities of the time period. I knew he'd taken the right approach when in their opening song they're singing "I'm lookin for a mind at work."

^Totally agree. It may not be the most feminist musical out there, but the things he does to try to bring the female characters to life, and give them voices, are nothing short of brilliant. Like you said, he makes the effort but it feels totally organic to the story. In contrast with a show like Something Rotten, which just kinda tossed in a messy feminism sub-plot.
The one thing I kind of wish is that the song "Burn" had been sung directly to Hamilton, with him onstage. It may pose a risk of taking her out of the spotlight in her big emotional moment, but I think it adds poignancy and takes out what remaining passivity there is in the number.
is her last line, "i wish that you a) burn or b) die" ?
I saw it last night and now a few times on the video but still can't tell.

I hope that you Burn.

From the New Yorker: The Women of Hamilton by Michael Schulman
Good article, and as an aside, I love his description of the first Republican primary debate.
I have to admit, I've never read (or seen referenced) these kind of reviews; "Book Of Mormon" comes close but reading the often unpredictable BB in the NYT saying "mortgage your house and sell your children"... that's advertising money can't buy.
I also saw that Hamilton producers have already ticked off Tony voters by telling them they must come by 9/12/15 and can only come on Tue,Wed or Thu nights. Does anyone know if this is the truth or a half-truth?
At its very best, that would be at most a half-truth.
@steve,
It is a half truth.
Voters have indeed been offered tickets per what you (based on Riedel) say. At this time, they will only be accommodated on the days mentioned.
What Riedel misunderstood (or deliberately misconstrued to create controversy) is that Tony voters (like thousands of others, including many here) have been clamoring for tickets sooner rather than later. This is the producer's accommodation. Obviously, those voters who for whatever reason don't see it during this window will be accommodated later, before the Tonys.
Thanks guys; It's nice to be able to get real info (especially from K and HH and PJ) because I'm not in NYC but we tend to get there at least 1 or 2 times a month. Looking forward to seeing H on 10/3

FYI LMM tweeted that Anthony Ramos had his appendix out this morning. I'm guessing he'll be out for a little while. Hoping for a speedy recovery!
The timing... Thank goodness it happened right after opening and not before! Can you imagine how sad it would be to miss opening night in your Broadway debut role?
Thanks for the New Yorker article! I'm loving reading all the stuff about the show. By the way, can someone please tell me how to pronounce Schuyler so I'll stop sounding like an idiot when I say it in my head? Is it Sky-ler? Shoo-ler? Shy-ler? Something else??
Speedy recovery to Ramos!
Thayne Jasperson and Andrew Chapelle understudy the role, hopefully both will get a chance to play the part. Which also means a swing or two will get some stage time.
Thanks HH! I'm about to start reading the biography finally, after watching that fantastic clip of "Burn" I can't wait to read it. I didn't know who Phillipa Soo was before this (I listened to about the first third of Great Comet and turned it off because I thought it was mindless noise) and I think she's absolutely stunning.
Also, while we're at it, how is Okieriete Onaodowan pronounced? Is it o-KEER-ee-uh-tay o-NOW-duh-wahn?
In his bio he states: I am Oak. (Hoping by memory here.)
That's all the help I can be.
Gypsy, the book is great, so much so that I am now reading his newest which is about Washington.
No clue on the pronunciation. (I'm pretty good with Dutch; Nigerian, not so much.)

Another great review: "This show needs another rave like Kim Kardashian needs to find a quarter on the floor of a 7-Eleven, but..."

Heh. It's so strange to hear his full name. I've known him since the American Idiot 1st national tour and he's always introduced himself as Oak. :)
Kinda wished he understudied Washington as I think he can bring the same command as Chris does.
