It continually saddens me how things like this fail to ruin careers like they should. When you've got the money and influence, you can literally do whatever the f*** you want. Rules don't apply. It's how we wound up with the current White House administration. Sigh...

well don’t jump the gun. CBS Evening News reporting on it and saying that he is taking a leave of absence. (They also say his lawyers claim to be preparing a lawsuit, but let’s see how far that gets....)

^ but even if he quits now, he's still a successful multi-millionaire with many Oscars to his name. It's so unfair that very, very little happens to the many men in positions of power who are guilty of sexual harassment, while the women, whether they come forward or not, always suffer the most. I'm so bloody sick of it. Seriously is there ONE industry or even company where a powerful man isn't guilty of this?

It's not just women who are prey to these powerful figures, of course.

Dare I say that the only reason he was fired was because his indiscretions were brought to light, and the threat of losing potential backers and producing partners because of it.
His indiscretions have been known in Hollywood circles for years.

Does this have any impact on the Finding Neverland tour?

I agree that they may have done this for the wrong reasons, but I'd definitely argue that it's a step in the right direction. And honestly, even if this decision was made from a place of corporate greed, I say it takes what it takes to get scumbags their comeuppance. We have power as consumers, and we can use that power to send a statement to greedy corporate people. If the threat of our lost patronage can make backers and board members fire rapists, let's keep it up.
It might also be worth noting that many powerful, rich industry members accused of rape have not faced any consequences whatsoever EVEN when their crimes were brought to light by the press. So the fact that the Weinstein Company did it is no small matter.

Late news just reported that Nathan Lane came forward and said Weinstein shoved him against a wall and threatened him over a joke Lane made at an event for Hillary Clinton.

I mean, yeah. Totally. But I'd still rather people get fired for their gross sexist because of the business impact (instead of actual morality) than not at all.

The silence is deafening from Hollywood. Streep calling him a "God" in her Oscar speech...the list goes on and on. I thought our Orange Cheeto President was the creeper in chief...Harvey seems far worse. I know he's not the only one in Hollywood, but that DOES NOT make it right. Frankly, I'm very disappointed by the responses by his peers, not to mention Hillary.

All you need to know about these people is the video of the Oscars where Roman Polanski is getting a standing ovation from all of Hollywood-including Meryl Streep- far after he slipped quaaludes to a 13 year old girl to ease his cause of raping her. How can I possibly respect any single person in the audience after seeing that? Unfortunately, I can't. And don't.

I understand the desire for his peers to come out more strongly against his disgusting behavior, but you cite 2 women he worked with or has known in a social/political fashion.
Repeat after me: women are not responsible for men and do not have to answer for them in any fashion. The onus is entirely on him to suffer the consequences. Don't drag them into this.

Thank you, I agree 100%. Also there was a statement from Streep, reported by Yashar.

To be fair against those who say they haven't spoken out enough, this happened late Thursday. Already Monday morning Meryl Streep has made a statement:
Academy Award winner Meryl Streep called the alleged sexual harassment by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein “disgraceful,” “inexcusable,” and an “abuse of power.” She called the women who have spoken out against him “heroes.”
And let's not forget by the end of the weekend, he was fired from the company he created.
I think we'll hear more as the dust settles. But for a lot of people, it's still going to feel like a betrayal and might be hard to put into words. He created many careers in front of and behind the cameras.

And did Fox News and Meghan McCain miss this?
The MSNBC anchor wants the company's culture to change first, she said on Monday morning. Despite Harvey Weinstein's termination from the company he co-founded, Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski is still planning to nix a three-book deal she has with Weinstein Books (through Hachette Book Group).

does anyone on this board actually believe that sexual abuse by employers in hollywood toward vulnerable female and male aspiring actors has magically stopped because harvey got taken down????
this is the tip of the iceberg and every film and tv studio immediately needs to hire attorneys like eric holder to run internal investigations make recommendations and implement strong anti haressment policies with immediate termination and reporting to authorities where laws have been violated
