I saw all five of the ladies nominated and as others have said, it was an amazing year for leading actresses in a musical.
Laura playing a role that is basically written to her strengths, Jessie once again proving she's able to anchor a show with such a deep emotional connection, Carmen making a long overdue and sweeping Broadway debut, and Phillipa bringing her strong and heartbreaking role from off-Broadway to Broadway. And of course, Cynthia, who you just feel every single note and emotion on her journey - which as many has mentioned is quite the extensive journey in age and emotion.
Can't we just celebrate what these women brought to this season in their own respects? Because rather than sit here and split hairs, I'd personally rather celebrate all of their wonderful performances.
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
