How Is Max von Essen Doing As Che

I don't know where to put this because I didn't want to start a new thread, but I just found some clips on Christina DeCicco as Eva on youtube.

Rainbow High: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNSjST9boIs&feature=channel&list=UL

Buenos Aires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uly1uBBobbM&feature=channel&list=UL

A New Argentina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdwjumfWaLg&feature=channel&list=UL

no offense to elena, but this is definitely a case in which the understudy is miles better than the regular.

Elena is gonna be a part of BA, Buenos Aires, Big Apple until Saturday so there was no "qual" from her tonight. Wonder's how Christina's sounded.

I'd feel bad for Max, too. He's a wonderful performer and so deserves to be seen. The star casting is going to do this show in.

I saw Christina (and Ricky before he got sick) at the matinee yesterday. I've now seen both Elena and Christina but have yet to see Max as Che sadly.

Christina is certainly technically better and has far better diction but she doesn't have a single "touch of star quality." I just never believed she was actually Eva Peron. She has no stage presence and never acted particularly regal. Even during "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," she looked like she stole someone's clothes and was playing the part of a powerful lady.

I wasn't an Elena fan but I could always believe she was actually Eva Peron.

I have audios from all three Evas (Elena Roger, Christina DeCicco, and Jessica Lea Patty). Elena Roger sounds the best IMO, but Jessica Lea Patty is pretty fantastic as well. DeCicco's voice does not do much for me, but she still sounds good.

Each to their own; those clips don't make me think 'Eva Perón' at all. More like Wicked.

I agree...watch YouTube Patti LuPone performances from the original, or try to get the original Broadway score.

I got that feeling, too, listening to the clips. In the clip of "A New Argentina" Christina sounds very strong singing "He supports for he loves you!", but the rest of the clips did nothing for me. I really did not like her "Buenos Aires". To be fair, I'd love to see her perform as I've seen the wonderful Elena many times already.

Agree. After all the raves for Christina, I expected much better. Glad I saw Elena.

I liked the clips. She has a good voice. In a few years, she'll have a great voice. I'd be interesting in hearing Jessica Lee Patty. from RC in Austin, Texas
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I hope there are more clips out there! He does sound wonderful.

I think he makes a great Magaldi. But, as Che, that tremulous vibrato which leads him wavering off-pitch works less well for me than Ricky Martin. Neither of them is ideal, but I think Martin sounds better. Still, I;m glad he has his supporters.

What days are Max going on for Che in August? Is he going on for Ricky Martin on August 10th? I'm not a Ricky fan, and would love to see Max in the role! I know I've posted things similar to this before, but I read earlier that he officially announced which performances he will be playing the role during Martin's August vacation.

I bought a ticket for the matinee on Wednesday, July 25. How do I find out who's in and who's out? (I'm going to see Michael Cerveris - I'm assuming he does all performances.)

How Is Max von Essen Doing As Che

Christina (Elena's alternate) plays the role of Eva Peron in every Wednesday and Saturday matinee. Ricky Martin should be playing the role of Che, unless he's sick.

Oops...sorry. I just realized that Christina is on Wednesday evenings. So Eva will be played by Elena at the matinee.
