Given how decent the box office is doing for Cher Show, and given that Madonna's story is probably a bit more interesting, and she def. has the catalog for it- how long do you think until this comes to be? Or is there already one in the works? Express Yourself: The Madonna Story LOL or something cheesy like that.

I can't imagine she hasn't been offered many times. She probably would want something original rather than jukebox, so neither is happening. (She wrote music for a planned musical based on the life of vaudeville star Texas Guinan in the early 2000s, but abandoned it.)
There is, however, a Britney jukebox show coming down the pike.

I want to say that they wanted to make the "Desperately Seeking Susan" musical a Madonna jukebox show, but Madonna didn't want that, so they got Blondie instead.
I feel like Madonna is such a creative being that she would would either want to write he music for an original show, or I could see her directing something, to be honest.

Obviously it is up to her and I don't see her wanting to do one but what the heck do I know -lol

The Texas Guinan thing sounds intriguing!
And yes! Once Upon a One More Time I think was the last title attached to it. I remember they had a reading not too long ago last year. The concept sounds really interesting! And I could see how a lot of her songs would fit that type of story (Cinderella, Lucky) How amazing would it be if the Evil Stepmother is taunting cinderella about going to the ball and starts singing Work B!tch lol

She would unlikely license her catalogue for such a thing (noting that you do hear some of her very early songs like Holiday licensed into other things like the Trolls movie or Sandals Resorts commercials but I don't believe she actually owns the copyright to that song anymore? Ugh I used to be such a Madonna stan for 15 years and now my memory/expertise has dwindled). But she did license some of her greatest hits to "Glee" for their all-Madonna episode, so it's not totally unheard of for her to hand over her songs without creative control.
But she considers herself an actress (like it or not) and she is a film director already, and has been on Broadway and in a handful of other stage productions, so can't imagine a world where she allows a portrayal of her life without her involvement. Does anyone know how those unlicensed musicals work like what is always going on in LA? Like Cruel Intentions and Edward Scissorhands, except it's all pop songs? They can't possibly afford to license all those songs...can they?
If it was a jukebox musical...maybe? But I'd much rather it go along the lines of Cher Show, Jersey Boys, Ain't Too Proud than Mamma Mia or Head Over Heels.

I have wondered about this a lot too!

OP;
Are you asking about a bio-musical about Madonna?
Or a jukebox musical using the Madonna catalog for a new story?
Seems more like the former than the latter.

I imagine it's a legal loophole combining cabaret rights (since they're performed in technically cabaret spaces and not union theatres) and parody laws since the songs are used in a parody show.

If such a show was to be her life story, I'd probably leave at intermission. She hasn't been interesting since the early 90s.

Posted: 3/5/19 at 2:43pmAs a major Madonna fan, I actually kinda hope this never happens. Jukebox musicals and bio-musicals rarely do the source artist’s material justice. She has had a fascinating career, but I fear a stage production would flatten that out. If they were to do it, I’d hope they would pick one album (ala Jagged Little Pill) plus maybe a couple other songs from other albums that would lend itself to building a plot around it. While Like a Prayer is my favorite Madonna album, I’d actually vote Ray of Light. It’s perhaps her creative peak (although Confessions on a Dance Floor also deserves consideration) and is surreal enough that it could maybe most lend itself to a somewhat surreal plot with emphasis on interesting choreography and stage craft.

A Madonna style Movin' Out could be interesting.

Four of her big songs were featured in 'Priscilla Queen of the desert the musical'- 'Holiday', 'Like a prayer', 'Material girl' and 'Like a virgin'

Madonna would absolutely NEVER consent to a jukebox musical

for better or worse, she would not need to. All of her music prior to her split with Warner belongs to Warner, and that of course includes the guts of what would be of interest for exploitation. So far as I know she doesn't own the rest either, but may be on better terms to keep it under control. as if...

From what I understand, she's been offered numerous times to do a musical of her music, and she's always refused.
I've always thought it would be interesting to turn the "plot" and music of her Blond Ambition tour into a book musical.

Posted: 6/23/20 at 6:14pmYes, she’s turned it down but I believe she’s said something like “If it’s going to happen than I’m the one who’s going to make it”, so it’s sounded for a long time like she just wants creative control and would we expect ANYTHING less?

"would we expect ANYTHING less?"
no, but would it ever get made? I have my doubts.
I have a lot of reasons, but let me just throw out one question to ponder: who would play her? (I am not asking that to prompt a bunch of ideas/fantasies. I don't think there is such a person.)

Hopefully never. But as others have said, it comes down to whether she wants to lease the rights--and I'm betting that's a no. When she gets to Tina Turner's age, it will be a yes, and probably as a similar vehicle for herself, too.
