Lilla would be terrific! And she could be one of the first broadway stars of her generation to become a movie star!!

For what it's worth, a couple days ago a friend of mine was contacted about a last minute vocal coaching for Abigail Breslin. He wasn't available to do it, but I would be willing to wager it would have been a Red related song he would have been working in with her (unless there's some other musical project that she might be eyeing).

My vote still goes to Carly Rose Sonenclar as Little Red Riding Hood.

I would be quite fine with that
I love her version of "I Am What I Am"

Anna Kendrick would indeed make a terrific Cinderella.

Woah. I've never heard of Carly Rose Sonenclar, but she seems pretty capable. Does Seth have any strings?

I agree completely, since i first heard they were making a movie, I thought they should have all the "children" be unknowns and all the parental figures be famous people (just since they're smaller and we all knew they'd be wanting big names anyway)

I hope we hear some casting news for Cinderella, Rapunzel, and other characters soon. Production is beginning in three months. Like I said earlier if Laura Osnes plays Rapunzel they should get a name to temporarily replace her in 'R&H Cinderella' during the difficult fall months for Broadway.

I could see Sierra Boggess replacing Laura in Cinderella easily. Wish Ashley Brown would get a chance at replacing, Cinderella is perfect for her.
Whatever happened to Ashley Brown? I feel like Laura Osnes (whom I prefer even as I find Brown impressive) stole her career.
I'd love to see Osnes as Rapunzel, Abigail Breslin as Little Red, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella and Megan Hilty as one of the Stepsisters. I want them to announce the entire cast so badly!

Couldn't disagree more about Brown and Osnes. They are SO different! But, yes, what did happen to Brown?
Brown just closed "Oklahoma!" at the Lyric Opera in Chicago:

I'm going to get stoned to death on BWW for saying this, but I don't think Ashely Brown is very photogenic, particularly as a leading lady. She has a large jaw, etc.
She could be a terrific character actress on screen, but i don't see a role for her in this movie. (Remember the stepsisters are "beautiful, but vile and black of heart.")
I agree, ray, I want more casting news!
How can these roles not go to pop stars? After hearing Jessica Simpson sing that company song, I would cast her in something.
Ashley Brown has been doing lots of regional work, but yes, she fits in to the category of Laura Osnes and Sierra Boggess, even if her last NY show was "Mary Poppins." I saw her on the "Mary Poppins" tour and thought she was wonderful! I also love her on the cast recording of "On The Record."
Ashley Brown will next be seen as Irene in HELLO, DOLLY! at Goodspeed this summer.

Jessica Simpson may be able to sing but she can't act on screen. For these big musical films, we need actors that can sing not singers that can't act.

I remember last year when Amanda Seyfried presented at the Tonys since she was going to be a part of 'Les Miserables'. I know Gyllenhaal recently starred in an Off-Broadway show, but I wondering if him presenting at the this year's Tonys is a hint that he's DEFINITELY doing 'Into the Woods'.

Jewel has hinted on Twitter that she has aduditioned for the role of Cinderella.

I think Laura Osnes and Sierra Boggess would be great as the Stepsisters, if they're not going for movie names.
They would look great with Baranski, too.
"All three were beautiful of face, but vile and black of heart."
One thing seems clear if Jewel has indeed auditioned for Cinderella.
It means they are seeing people for the part, so, even if she's available for it (or negotiations didn't break down), that mean it's not "in the bag" for Anna Kendrick.
I still think Anna would be a great choice, so I hope it works out.

Anna is still my number one by a mile choice, but I assumed she dropped out since that would make Pitch Perfect, Last 5 Years, Into the Woods, and Pitch Perfect 2 all come out in a 3 year period or so. She may want to divirsify her choices more and yes, I know she has many other non musical projects in the works. Just speculating and hope she does it. I heard she KILLED it in the reading, but then again so did Nina.
I heard she KILLED it in the reading, but then again so did Nina.
That's great to hear.
The difference, of course, is that Anna has an Oscar nomination already and has carried movies herself in leading and supporting roles. It's not a "risky" choice at all, by Hollywood standards.
Besty, that's a really good point re Kendrick that I hadn't thought about, she is an Oscar nominee and just headlined a surprise hit with PITCH PERFECT (not to mention her involvement in the multimillion franchise TWILIGHT). But I agree that with her commitments to THE LAST 5 YEARS and PITCH PERFECT 2, the scheduling might just not work out. I imagine that if they're auditioning actresses, it means she's a no-go, which is a real shame because she'd be perfection. I've already expressed my thoughts about Jewel's acting (she recently got poor reviews for her performance as June Carter Cash too), so I hope if it's a surprising person, that it's someone good.
I will say Marshall has shown a great eye with his casting choices so far, from Baranski as the Stepmother to Corden as the Baker to Depp's ideal casting as the Wolf. Unlike NINE where he just cast random people and then (haphazardly) 'tailored' the roles to them, it seems he's actually trusting the material this time around and finding exactly the right fit for each role. He did it so well with CHICAGO, I'm just going to have to trust him on this one.
Let's remember that James Corden's casting is not yet confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter made a point to say after the last round of announcements that their sources said Corden was not yet a sure thing, and Baz Bamigboye in The Daily Mail in London said recently that Corden's involvement was subject to tricky scheduling involving a play he's already committed to at The National.
I hope he's doing it, of course, but the casting notice people are using as evidence of his definite involvement wasn't official.
