Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Joanna “JoJo” Levesque will make her Broadway debut in the Tony-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical beginning April 11 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Levesque, who will step into the role of Satine for a 14-week limited engagement through July 16, will star opposite Tony nominee Derek Klena, who returns to the production in the role of Christian the same day.

The only JoJo I acknowledge is K-Ci and JoJo !!!
Yaaaassss Jojo! Mama CAN SING. PERIOD.
I remember she was going to be leading the Jawbreaker musical that never made it past the lab. I'm so excited for this. Her voice is timeless.

I'm definitely GenX as I have never heard of this person.

The only JoJo I know is in Seussical.
I know two of her three hits, only because they sound somewhat similar.
Good for her, hope she can actually carry a show, that role wears out the best of them.

Good thing this has never been an 8 show a week role!
JK. But, seriously. The actresses who have played Satine have pretty weak attendance records.
Good thing it’s a 6-show-a-week role.
I’m excited for JoJo. She has always been vocally impressive ever since she topped the charts with “Leave (Get Out)” at 13. She’s since acted in movies and TV. She has the qualifications to do the role well. She even posted an IG video singing “Firework” back in December (when the rumors of her taking over the role started) and she sounds great. I’m here for this casting.
For everyone saying “who?” it doesn’t really matter since this show will sell anyway. Let JoJo’s fans be excited about it and let’s give her the chance to actually do well. I’m excited to hear an actual pop star sing these songs.
She really is a great performer. About a decade ago I saw her at First Avenue in Minneapolis and she was genuinely surprised by the reaction everyone had when she started “Leave (Get Out)”. At the meet and greet she remarked that she didn’t think so many in the audience actually knew her music (as it was a triple-headlining show). Excited for her to have her Broadway debut!
The “oNLy Br0adWay acToRS c@n sInG 8 sHoWS a wEeK” people always come out in full force. A touring schedule is 10x worse. Will Jojo call in sick? Will she miss performances? Yes! But girl can sing, and I’m here for it.

Is a millennial considered old or young now? (Am serious). I have no idea who Jo Jo is.

In general I think many people use Millennial as a term to describe the youngest generational cohort even though Millennials are older than many people think. Gen Z (aged 16-26) is the current resident youth generation.
Like the Baby Boomers, Gen Y/Millennials is a huge cohort of around 70-80 million people in the US. GenX is usually considered to have about half that number.

Well, my Gen Z boyfriend is obsessed with her and I barely knew who she was. So, for the younger crowd, this is good casting.
I will say it seems like a show that would be right for casting from the pop music world, given its score.

Jason is right that many people just use millennials to describe the youngest generation, but in this case, it's accurate. Millennials are about 28-42 years old. JoJo's biggest hits were 2004-2006, so a lot of millennials would have been in their teens or tweens. I think she was a bit more popular with the younger crowd, so older Gen Z may have overlapped.
Baby Boomers - born 1946-1964
Gen X - born 1965-1980
Millenials - born 1981-1996
Gen Z - born 1997-2012
If this show wasn't already locked down in terms of content and structure, I'd have jumped on the gimmick of the casting and written in "Leave (Get Out)" at an appropriate juncture in the plot, perhaps when she jilts Christian to save his life.
