John Hill is now officially an "openly gay actor"

I've come back (good news to those who missed me, and I know there are a few of you) because Bare's John Hill talks openly about being gay (for the first time I believe) in Wayman Wong's latest The Leading Men colum. It's a great read! And Wayman also profiles Robin Taylor & Billy Eichner of "Creation Nation," who are also openly gay! Thanks again to Wayman for spotlighting New York's brightest talents, and for making his subjects so comfortable about talking about themselves. And bravo to John Hill!!!

With every post about John Hill being gay or not, I wanted to tell this story but I waited.
If anyone was at the last show of John in Hairspray(I can't remember which it was), then you also knew that John was gay.
That is because Harvey, at the curtain call, talked about introducing John to his boyfriend during the run of the show. It was very cute, as was his boyfriend.

Posted: 6/5/06 at 11:18pmIf you're a fan of John's, you also might like to know that he'll be writing a new column for a British gay magazine called reFRESH. In it, he'll 'share his views on life, love and the pursuit of happiness' and reveal 'what's life really like on a Broadway show' and 'what's the secret to standing out in Hollywood.' There's a feature on him in the April/May 2006 issue. The Oscar Wilde Bookshop on Christopher St. carries it.

Good for him. I mean, I admit there's that subconcsious teeny-bopper fan girl thing inside me going, "Oh my god! John Hill is officially gay! I could go out with him..." bla bla bla.
But no, really. I'm happy he's comfortable with it. And it's nice to know he's doing really well with the show, etc. I hope he comes back to Broadway.

Now there is no need to get all pissy! :P
I just think that with the Senate debating our rights at this very moment, one should realize that it's not so simple as to say who cares? Or to boil it down to who you go to bed with.
It's also who John takes as his date to a party or awards show. It's also how America will accept or not accept him and his new TV show and anything else he does that gets mainstream attention.
And knowing many actors who suffer with living in the closet to protect their careers, this is such a great thing to hear that another UP AND COMING actor is taking the risk of coming out.
Your sentiment and idea is lovely. That's the ideal world we all aspire to. It's just the reality of the day we live in.
Now, don't go getting all pissy because I said all that!

Posted: 6/6/06 at 2:40amJerby, you are wonderful! I couldn't have said it better myself; in fact I couldn't have said it nearly as well. Truly, it astounds me that "acrocksyo," as a gay person, could imply that it doesn't matter whether we come out or not. As always, Jerby, kudos to you for persuing your career as an out gay man!

"There is, but it shouldn't really matter if he is gay or not. America is too preoccupied with who is gay and who isn't."
yes acorck, you are right, and you must be a VERY young gay person........
the point is, they more actors who are open, the less stigma there will be........the more people in any field who come out, the better it will eventually be for all of us.
It should not matter if he is gay....but it does, and that's the point you've missed.
And elsgr, are you back for good? Or at the first sign of someone responding to a post of yours that they do not agree with, and telling you so, will you run off again?

right.....sadly, it does. I mean we have a president making us the political issue to try and keep his party in power, when the economy, the war, and so much more is what he should be concentrating on.
Two friends of ours will celebrate their 32 year together on July 4th. I'd really like Mr. Bush to explain how that denigrates the "sacred" institution of marriage.........but I do not want to threadjack.....sorry
