Really....how can you be MAD? We know she was sick Sunday. She didn't sound great Sunday night. She was suppose to risk'
1. Getting the rest of the cast sick? 2. Delaying her own health ? 3. Risk further injury to her voice? 4. Give a substandard performance?
Just for you? She doesn't owe ANYONE anything except the best preformance she can give WHEN SHE IS THERE.
I understand disappointed, but anything beyond that sounds like a child.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Yea, disappointed is one thing, but being angry, and letting it linger?! Totslly different issue. She might have lost a family member. Point is ya never know....
I am sure that you will have MANY other chances to see her again !!
I certainly am glad I wasn't there. I want her in every show I see of WSS. But you guys have to relax. People are out all the time, it's there job. You can't tell me you never call out sick of your job. And I bet your job doesn't have you singing and dancing and acting your ass off each day! She is still a person, she needs a break. She did sound sick and incredibly tired.
LEAVE HER ALONE! You are lucky she even performed for you B*******! LEAVE KAREN OLIVO ALONE!?..Please. Perez Hilton talked about professionalism and said if Karen was a professional she would?ve pulled it off no matter what.
Speaking of professionalism, when is it professional to publicly bash someone who is going through a hard time.
Did you even stop to think that maybe, just maybe, she is also disappointed in missing the first performance after her Tony win? That she wouldn't want to "celebrate" with her cast and fans?
You're mad, you're upset. It's not ALL about YOU.
I hung out with Cheyenne Jackson in his dressing room waayyyyyy before he tickled D2."unleash the girly"
Our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch.
Ok, I'm over it. The understudy was wonderful and I'm glad Karen didn't do the show last night since she was sick. In fact, I think she should take this entire week off so she can feel 100% better before going back into the show. Karen, thank you for not being in the show last night because I wouldn't want to see a sub-par performance from you. You made the right choice by calling out. I feel so fortunate to experience this form of entertainment as often as I do and it doesn't matter at all whether or not a Tony-winning actress is in the show the night I see it. I would never let something as trivial as that linger for more than five minutes...

This thread gets funnier by the minute (or with every new angry WAT meltdown post, whichever one comes first). Imagine the BWW comedy gold if WAT returns to WEST SIDE STORY and Olivo is out...again! But alas, I get ahead of myself.
Wat... you are really starting to frighten me...
Testing, I'd agree if the meltdowns weren't oh so amusing.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
ray, of course WAT is returning to WEST SIDE STORY.
He has a firm policy of seeing every show at least fifteen times, so he's working hard until he meets his quota.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Oh I wasn't questioning whether WAT would be returning or not, we all know he will. I just think that for entertainment purposes, Olivo should be out the night he returns...again. Just to spite him like she clearly did this time From what I understand he doesn't return to every show fifteen times, he wouldn't see HAIR again if you paid him...you know HAIR, right? The revival that's actually good.

Princeton, I need you to repeat this mantra to yourself over and over again until you calm down. "Perez is a tool. Perez is a tool". Forget anything he says. Karen was out. Big deal. We don't know why but I'm sure it was a legitmate reason.
WAT aside I don't think anyone in this thread is bashing Karen for being out. Yes, there's been some playful comments but nothing was mean-spirited.
WAT is angry at Karen for being out. Should be be called on the proverbial carpet for that? Absolutely. It's foolish and unfair to Karen. Should he be attacked for how many times he's seen WSS or other shows? I don't think so. It's not really that relevant. I know many posters on this board make repeat visits to shows. I figure as long as they're not there every day it's not an issue. Once a month or every other month is fine IMO. It's his money. Better to filter it back into Broadway than something else.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
Doesn't matter to me how many times he's seen the show (as Eris said, as long as you're not there every night, there's nothing wrong with it), but the fact that he's so angry at Karen for being ill is foolish and a little frightening.
And to actually try some discussion, a couple of my friends went to the show last night and said Yanira Marin was wonderful.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

If she was in fact sick, I am not mad at her for being sick. I am mad because I wanted to see her first performance post Tony win and she was not there. Period. End of story. If she were in the show last night and was visibly and audibly ill, I would have said "what a trooper for going on last night even though she was sick...she is a real star who doesn't want to disappoint her fans."
and ray, HAIR is a horrible revival, in my opinion, because it is an awful show. The revival of WSS is outstanding and the show itself is a masterpiece.
...and Eris, seeing the WSS revival five times is NOTHING compared to the amount of times some people on this board have seen XANADU, WICKED, NEXT TO NORMAL or RENT, so thank you for saying I should not be attacked for the amount of times I have seen this show.
