I know I posted a few days back that Kelsey Grammer will be playing both roles in the upcoming "La Cage Aux Folles".
I am curious to what the public is considering doing when they go see this show. Are they going to see Kelsey Grammer in his original role of Georges, or wait until October when they deck him out in makeup and feather boas to become Albin??
I personally would rather seem him as Georges...
I wouldn't wait until his Albin stint. There is always the possibility that the show could close before then.
Why not see both? Then compare them, pick your favorite, post it on this forum, and get attacked for your choice?
That's what I'd do...
I'd see him as Georges. I'm still not convinced the show will be running long enough for him to be Albin.
All of the lovers and supporters of the theatre are out in force tonight, I see.

You could have asked that on the other thread.
You mean the first thread he posted about this or the two threads that were already posted about this two days earlier?
The producers are certainly HOPING that you will see both.
I'm not sure if I'm going to see this at all....but it will most likely make my list over the summer.

I see him as Frasier. And only as Frasier. Sorry!
What I am doing: Seeing him in whatever role he is playing on June 5 based on the previously-obtianed tickets that are in my possession now.
See him as Georges, 'cos Hodge is an aces Albin. Then see him as Albin just to see how it works!

I'd see him as Georges as that is more like the role he always plays. Hodge is supposed to be terrific as Albin, so I'd want to see him play that role.

you missed the producers point, they want you to see it twice, der.
While coming up with this plan to have Grammer switch roles after six months, didn't anyone take into consideration the fact that he is a burly 6'1" man that would never actually be a believable woman to the Dindons? I mean, that family would have to be pretty friggin stupid.

based off that video, Hearn TOWERED over the cast
Still, I'm a little over six feet tall, and I've met George Hearn, and he came about up to my chin, lol. He seems much larger when he's singing!
But yeah, when (if?) Grammer does get his chance to switch over to Albin, maybe they can add in a line for M. Dindon like, "My you're a big girl, aren't you?"
EDIT in regards to the video: How odd to see two Sweeneys being lovers together...(Denis Quilley was the original London Sweeney Todd)

What if Grammer gets nominated for a Tony Award? Will he still switch roles? It seems like people would want to see him in the role he was nominated for.

Baritone - in the London production, Quast and Allam played Georges and Albin respectively, and they both played Javert in Les Mis! Apparently they both had similar knee problems thanks to an ill-fated move Quast created - Quast even had to go for knee surgery during his run, I think.
I have a feeling this production is going to be a surprise sleeper hit - and on that note, I'd rather see Grammer as Georges, almost merely because I REALLY want to see Hodge's much-acclaimed Albin.
A brief sample of Kelsey's Georges is here, singing a bit of "Song on the Sand".

I'm actually very interested in seeing both performances! Sounds like a great idea...
