Show is great.  Thanks to those who posted about it here so we could get tickets while they were still affordable.  We were in Row D, center, on Saturday, for $140 or so, those seats are now $400 and up.

 

Just out of Groff's "splash zone", too, which was nice.

 

The actress who plays Crystal was filling in for Audrey II and did a very good job.

I caught this yesterday. This Little Shop of Horrors is the EPITOME of how this show should be done. It is rare to find a production of any show these days that is absolute perfection from top to bottom, but what’s happening at the Westside Theatre right now is so flawless and impeccable that it’s nothing short of magic.

That cast knocks it out of the park. Jonathan Groff’s Seymour is boyish, clumsy, awkward, yet still endearing and charming beyond belief. Christian Borle is menacing, terrifying, and hilarious all at the same time. Unfortunately, Tammy Blanchard was out, but Chelsea Turbin’s Audrey was incredible. There was no “ditz” in her portrayal. She played Audrey as a very real woman who has just been beaten down by life.

The show REALLY benefits from being in a small space. The production feels intimate, and no matter which seat you are in, you are guaranteed a great view and a close connection to the action. The puppetry for Audrey II was great. The set and lighting design were simple, but top notch.

This Little Shop demands to be seen. Little Shop is one of the few shows I consider to be perfectly written and constructed, and seeing a perfect production of an already perfect show is such a treat. I would go so far as to say this is the best piece of theatre I have seen this year. It’s very rare and surprising to come across something so genuinely perfect.

Finally got to see this last night and, as so many others have experienced - Tammy was out. I’m guessing this is a normal thing for her to miss a crap ton of shows. Her understudy was very good but needless to say, I was disappointed especially because of the money spent and it’s completely sold out so no chance to see her and Groff again. But Borle was the standout here - AMAZING performance. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while. It had also been a while since I’ve seen Groff in a leading role in a musical so I forgot about the spitting. And I love Groff to death - one of, if not the nicest, most genuine people you’d ever want to know. But man, last night was a lot. It was dripping down his mouth at one point and very distracting (yet hilarious) to watch it “grow”. But that aside, I’m really happy I saw this production, perfectly directed and exactly what this show should be.

Would you suggest this over Tina Turner if you had to choose between? I can score some decent seats for LSoH on the date we need but Tina seats are also available just more expensive. Thanks for your opinion!

I liked Tina, but I LOVED Little Shop of Horrors.

Tina was weak

J. Groff spit so much I got sick watching him (and shielding myself)

Christian is such a doughy ham in this it was no fun

The "urchins" were dreadful - two of them had marbles in their mouths diction 

This night of theater ruined LITTLE SHOP for me -- I give it a "D" overall

Not to open up a can of worms (honest!!), but has Blanchard's absences been a more recent phenomenon, or has the Audrey understudy been needed regularly throughout the run so far?

I have tickets for 1/15 matinee. Would love to see all 3, but as long as Borle and Groff are in, I'll be thrilled.

I heard Turbin's Somewhere That's Green on YouTube, and she reminds me of Kerry Butler, which I loved.

100% agreed. Having seen both Blanchard and Turnbin, I would say to completely certainty that Turbin is far better in the role.
