Love to Rebecca Luker and Danny Burstein

The absolute worse news I'll hear all day. Thinking of them both.
What does God have against Baby Boomer Broadway Sopranos? 💔

“Hello friends. I have some tough news. Late last year I was diagnosed with ALS. I have the best medical care in the world and the greatest support. My dear husband Danny has been an angel. I will get well. In the meantime, we fight and go forward. Keep us in your thoughts.“

...And let’s add this to our list of bad things happening to good people.
Best wishes, good luck, and good fortune to them. It’s a horrible disease, but all you can do is fight. I don’t really believe in much, but I believe in hoping for the best. So I will.

Oh my God, how terrible. I pray that she beats the odds.

My heart is absolutely broken for both of them.
And if you can, Rebecca asked for donations to www.prosetin2020.org which is supposedly a promising drug to help fight ALS.

Awful. I remember how excited I was when she came to New York with the Hal Prince Show Boat and sang Magnolia so beautifully. To everyone back then the Internet was America On-Line, and I sent her a question about how she came to have a credit for just one spoken word on John McGlinn's three disk collection of all the music of Show Boat. She was new in New York and went to see McGlinn just when they needed someone to say a line in the Gaylord Magnolia reunion scene.
And she sings "Falling in Love with Love" as well as anyone who has ever sung it.
Complaining about 30 years going by with no progress on ovarian cancer. It's been almost 80 years since Lou Gehrig died. To try to be fair to medical science, ALS is considered a rare disease.

The very first Broadway performance I ever saw was The Phantom of the Opera in 1990. Ms. Luker was playing Christine at the time. All the best to her and her family.

Terrible news, I'm bereft.
Her CD Anything Goes: Rebecca Luker Sings Cole Porter is an absolute treasure.
All best wishes to her & Danny.

In case folks here haven’t seen this yet. It’ll be good to see and hear her sing, but this will be tough to watch.

She sounds so strong. And unafraid.

Danny has had to deal with so much hard stuff in the last year... his show being shut down, his getting coronavirus to the point of near death, his wife's ALS diagnosis, his torn meniscus. Imagine what his kids might be thinking. Hope him and Rebecca stay strong.

Does anyone know if the fundraiser from last night is available for viewing?

She was part of the Phantom Christine reunion on Stars in the House the other day. Danny popped in for a quick hello.

Danny Burstein wrote a guest column for the Hollywood Reporter with some updates. Absolutely heartbreaking.

That was hard to read. She's doing so poorly and within already tough times.

I just read that article and also found it really hard to get through, and just want to tell a story about when I was a waiter at a restaurant on the UWS near where Rebecca and Danny live. Rebecca came in by herself for lunch and sat in my section, and I recognized her as soon as I walked over but I didn't acknowledge that to her. She was so strikingly kind and authentic, she asked my name and called me by it, she was so gracious, and she made the kind of eye-contact where you know someone is truly present with you. And she tipped me 30% on the meal. Another time she came in for dinner with Marin Mazzie, who also stunned me with her authenticity and presence, even in passing. I know that the Rebecca and Danny's loved ones must really be hurting, but I just wanted to mention this to say that even in her most casual and transactional interactions, Rebecca Luker makes people feel seen and cared about. She is obviously such a kind and loving woman. Sending them so much love xoxo
