While I think it has a couple of nice songs, I too find it hard to keep listening. I feel like had they taken the score more seriously at certain parts, that it would have done well. The opening number starts off well but once they start introducing the characters and all that I kind of lose interest. The story, cast, and yeah some of the music are very good though. I feel like it was maybe also a show that was hard to appeal to certain people. Idk if that’s true tho just a guess

Behold, the most words ever written about “Lysistrata Jones.”

Not that I should poke fun, after spending months reconstructing a complete “Extended edition” libretto to both Cabaret and Rocky Horror...

This was a musical starring the greatest actress to ever walk across a Broadway. I doubt anyone on this board would dare to disagree.

I’m not going to lie - when people ask me what the single worst show is that I’ve seen in half a century of theatergoing, for the last decade my answer has been this one. I realize that’s subjective - and I realize intellectually that there have been far worse Broadway shows, including many of those I’ve attended. Which probably means I should simply call this my “least favorite” show I’ve ever seen, rather than the worst overall. But “least favorite” simply doesn’t convey the level of irritation and loathing I felt while watching this one, whereas I have a soft spot for many far more legendary flops and disasters - therefore I’m sticking to my guns and calling this one The Worst.

Happy now?

I'll only be happy when said actress has a theatre named after her and the street said theatre is on is named after her as thanks for everything she has brought to the American Musical Theatre and everything she will continue to bring for she alone is the future of theatre. She alone will save us all.

Yes

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

....this was hands down the WORST show I have ever seen on Broadway.  I would have left 15 minutes in but I had free tickets and was sitting 3rd row center.  I remember turning to my friend @ the 15 minute mark and said, "this is so bad."

Definitely not a broadway show.

A close 2nd to this horrible show is Ghost (special effects were cool) and Rocky (last 30 mins was cool)

Coincidentally, I tried to give this show's cast recording a first listen the other day, but couldn't get through the first track. I thought perhaps I was just cranky from having tried out too many mediocre 'aimed-at-teens' musicals recently (Eugenius, Starry). I feel vindicated now.

I think the score is better towards the end of the show than the beginning. I also think the finale, Give It Up, is the best song in the show by far. This was a case of me enjoying a musical in spite of its score. The cast, choreography, and book were pretty solid.

A solid book? Whaaaat?
The book was a complete rip off of the movie “Can’t Hardly Wait.”

Oh, so now we don't like the movie Can't Hardly Wait? You're not wrong. Lysistrata Jones definitely pulled from a certain style of teen comedy.

Anyway, I was more referring to the musicalization of Lysistrata in a non-war context that made enough sense for the concept to hold water.

I haven't seen it yet, but doesn't Chi-Raq do that, but much better?
