I feel like Firth is almost too expected, he's just played so many versions of Higgins for the past few years. I'd love for them to think a little outside the box. Kevin Kline would certainly be an exciting choice, but I also like the suggestion of a younger actor. I wonder which British actresses Sher is looking at. How I wish Carey Mulligan had the vocal range for the part. She's the only choice that excites me as much as Benanti, who's clearly (and unfortunately) out of the running.

If they cast a big name as Higgins, maybe Eliza doesn't need to be as big a name. I'll throw in Erin Mackey, who deserved better than "In Transit" and who's currently killing it in "Sunday in the Park" at the Guthrie:
As long as we are throwing out names of unlikely choices who would do a terrific job in the role, Boston based actress Jennifer Ellis, who recently starred in Speakeasy Stage's Bridges of Madison County. Previously, she earned rave reviews in My Fair Lady at the Lyric Stage, including one from Terry Teachout, who said she was as strong an Eliza Doolittle as he had ever seen.

Pygmalion is a little thin for a movie but if someone wrote a new adaptation, I'd kind of like to see Carey Mulligan play Eliza... no singing involved.
What about Eva Noblezada for Eliza? She is a relative unknown, and would be finishing up Miss Saigon in January, which means she would be open in the spring for this.

I adore her, but I'm not sure that she has the right voice for the part. I'm not really sure how strong her classical soprano is.

Isn't the tour supposed to be a direct transfer of the Broadway production? So isn't she supposed to be going out the road with the show?
